If you're "snorking" or "retrohaling" you're inhaling more than you think.

When I first started smoking pipes, I was doing this almost every puff, I would smoke for an hour or two and be winded.

When you force that smoke up through your sinuses, you push some smoke down your windpipe. Plus, if you don't clear all the smoke from your nose before your next breath, you'll take that leftover smoke in.

Since I've stopped blowing smoke out of my nose, I've been able to smoke more bowls back to back without any kind of fatigue.

I still do the retrohale occasionally, because it can really help you find the flavors, but I mostly just let the smoke trickle into my mouth and find its way out of my mouth.

Get you a strong blend like Haunted Bookshop or some straight perique and practice smoking with the pipe clenched... You'll find out when the smoke is slipping by, and your body will learn to avoid it.

I don't inhale my pipe smoke and have no desire to. I'm DEFINITELY not a health oriented person... I eat badly, I don't get enough sleep, and I don't intentionally exercise. I simply can't see drawing anything, whether it be smoke, some kind of vape, or whatever comes along next, down into my lungs.

Or you may learn to like it, and start craving it.
I find myself purposefully snagging little inhales more with straight, strong blends more than any others.

But you know when you've done it.

Believe me, I know all about craving the inhalation of tobacco smoke. I've been fighting that bear since I was 12 or 14. Haha

I agree it can be enjoyable to inhale pipe smoke, especially those strong burleys.

Ideally, I want to be able to smoke my pipe all day and not feel rough... All the way from breakfast to bed. It doesn't always work out like that, but I wish it did.

I also smoke some blends light on the nicotine, to help pace myself... Like a light beer.

The reason all the old blends boasted about being "mild and easy on the throat" was because those people smoked constantly, and all day long.

I just think of a pipe like I think of chew... I can swallow chew spit, but after a while I'll be laid out feeling green.

If you think about it pipe smoking is alot like dipping or chewing.

Inhaling pipe smoke = swallowing chew spit. IMO
