I have an olive wood plate I bought in Italy. But that can't compete with Kiel's flake plate, really beautiful !

I bought a small square plate from Target for under $2. For on the go I just folded up a piece of paper to use in a pinch.

I use a plate that I turned from a ceader fence slat to dry and rub out my Flakes. I can also put it in my pipe bag when I go out. Actually I have 3 of these. While turning them each is a bit different.

I also know someone who works at a high school and he hooks me up with small bowls that kids make and do not want to take home. I have found that a small clay bowl that has not been glazed works really well for drying tobacco. My theory is that the clay is able to absorb moisture like a paper towel would.

I use a small wooden plates for the office and shop. For travel and something small, why not use the lid of flake tin such as vanilla flake? It's small, and has a lip, I've used lids lots of times when packing a pipe, it's probably the most common thing I use outside a plate.

Here is a link to a leather tobacco valet tray that I make. It's soft enough to bend and pour tobacco in to your pipe.

Basically I use it for rubbing out tobacco or letting it dry.

It's normally available in various sizes, but they have been selling out.

I like the paper hotdog trays you get at the gas station. I keep a stack of around 8-10 of them in my car!

I use the lid of the tin, or the flap of the pouch. I don't see the need for additional apparatus. Maybe I ought to give it a try, even if it's just the lid off a tupperware box.
