I got to hang out with some American pipe makers at the pipe show in China last week. Scott Tinker was there too. I picked up a sandblasted big leafy curly maple (i think?) flake plate and a tamper. Very satisfied!

I agree with your choice. Makes sense. Price is right.

This is what I went with.

Kiel, I've never heard it referred to as a flake plate. Brilliant! And American pipes at show in China?!?

Very cool Flake Plate you got there!!

@bluegrassbrian Sorry my post didn't really help you answer your question. Contacting Scott about a tobacco dish might be the best way to get one. Unfortunately I don't have his contact info, but I'm sure he's up on some insta-face (or one of the many other sites that are censored here) social media.
@nate Yes! This is the second year for the Chengde International Pipe Show. It's kinda neat that a civilian would go through all this work to organize an "international" event. He is a very rich civilian with his own Pipe Museum and a Harley Museum, but it's cool that he's willing to go this far and set up a China show too.

+1 for the mouse pad, thanks pagan. Just picked one up at the dollar store, trimmed it a bit, rolled it up and stuffed it in my pouch. Very nice plate! That would look awesome next to my rack!

Ha I do often end up using a napkin but I'm trying to secure something reusable and lasting.
Davet... yeah I've got a pipe purse. So what! 8)

I gotta admit, I am with shutterbug. Why the heck would you want to cart around more bric-a-brack? If you like to cube cut your flakes, you can easily prep them then throw them in a baggie to take with you, and if you like to rub them out, just rub them out in the palm of your hand ( :laughat: ). I do it all the time with no issue.

Mine is just a small ceramic dish I got at Wal-Mart for a dollar or so. Roughly 4x6.

I have a picture on an 8.5x11 piece of paper that I laminated for home. Works great as I is really pliable and great for pouring excess back into the jar. For the truck I have a little brass change plate I found at an second hand shop that works perfectly.

I love the ritual and hardware and a tray gives me a place to perform said ritual and put it away with all implements in one place.

Tis why I like my ceramic cowboy hat (70's chip and dip tray) with the cork knocker glued in.
Can carry that baby around and it's got plenty of room for the various accoutrement. And room to dry and rub out flakes and such.
Edit: Thanks, Goodwill!

We just had some visitors from Italy and I missed out. The guy before me snagged a pretty picture on a piece of leather. He asked me what it was. It's one of the ones with snaps on the corners to pop it up into a tray. No one knew what it was and I had to tell them, and then explain why I knew that. And still he decided to keep it rather than give me the sweet pop up tobacco tray. So it goes.
