Pencil thin shank. I still don't own one. I'm afraid to break them.
Yep. More fragile than meerschaum. The next one I bought had a stainless tube running the length of the shank. Not that I have any intention on dropping a pipe again, but you never know.

Slipped on ice with this in my pocket a few days ago. A very nice Sasieni Four Dot Rustic bulldog. I’m still trying to decide what to do with it. Toss it, superglue it, or save it for parts.

Advice all over the map; just what you need.

The safest is to let the pipe cool off if you insist on taking it apart.
But safer still is to simply sop up whatever moisture and tars there are with pipe cleaners. You absolutely don't need to disassemble the pipe until you are doing a thorough cleaning. If you want to smoke the pipe repeatedly with little or no down time between smokes, run cleaners through it until you're satisfied, not that the pipe needs it
