It was sad when I heard MCA died. Believe it or not, my old death metal band would randomly break into No Sleep til Brooklyn at practice and I always did MCA's part. My voice has always been baritone and kind of raspy so I always did MCA's lines. Our guitarist was a lot younger than the rest of the band so we had to make her listen to it. Kerry King from Slayer did the solo on that song. Slayer always had a habit of showing up in Beastie Boys videos, too.

music that has one chord and never goes anywhere is great for dancing. if you've got a really powerful sound system in your car so everyone else knows you're listening to it while you're sitting at the light, and not dancing, all the better.

The Pete Rock clip above took all of 20 seconds to compose, one single lick repeated over and over.
I'm old and have to go with ejames and your dad on this one

Rap is a musical style primarily concerned with telling people what your name is. With no singers and no real instruments, it's music for people who don't like music.
Or as the late, great John Entwistle so eloquently stated, "Rap is crap".
Can you tell that I really, REALLY don't like rap?

I guess I have an affinity for early rap due to my coming of age in the 80's. However, I grew out of rap(it changed also) by the late 80's. Only the early stuff for me. Run DMC/Beasties/Etc.

I knew right when I saw the title of this thread it was doomed. Some just aren't cool enough for rap or hip hop. 8)
