Here's my bloodhound. Her name is Georgia.

Be prepared. If you've never owned a bloodhound, they are NOT calm, sleepy hound dogs happy to curl up in front of the fire. They are not suited to life in a tiny apartment or a place where they can't get some exercise.

They are rambunctious idiots, full of slobber and they have no conception that they weigh 80-100 lbs. They will eat anything, they will tackle Grandma just for the chance to lick her face, they will do anything imaginable to get food. Everyone will stop to pet your bloodhound. They love to snuggle and drip drool all over everything you own. They will lick the skin off of your face. They are strong as oxen, and smell almost as bad. Their ears are always wet and slimey.

I love Georgia, but be aware what you're getting into! She's the sweetest, kindest and most loving (and loveable) dog I've ever owned, but she's a handful.View attachment 139151
I've had Irish Setters, so I'm familiar with the modus operandi

Hounds are real working dogs, for the most part. They are still close to their working ancestors, and many still do work. No wonder they stink, since the sense of smell is their signature talent.

For some reason, my two Maine-Coon lookalike rescue cats out of a drainpipe, endlessly sniff the knees of my trousers as if they are reading the newspaper. I do launder my clothes, but evidently the scents I pick up on my knees are highly informative and interesting to feline sniffers.

I second the motion on selecting a short name for your prospective bloodhound. The dog learns it quickly. It's better for combining with commands (and adoring praise). Also, short names are less likely to get shortened into nicknames.

Our current dog, a terrierist, is in the advanced stages of Cushing's Disease and I was thinking of a Bloodhound
replacement for after she sheds her mortal coil is the reason I ask. There's no rush as our mutt is still flying with her dirty side down.
