I'm confused about the difference between casing and cavendish.

I guess I should have paid better attention as a child, somehow I thought Popeye was a "good" guy but according to AI in my search:
"Popeye is a scrappy little seaman with bulging forearms, a squinty eye, and a screwed-up face, punctuated with an ever-present pipe in his mouth.6 He is always ready for a fight instead of a reasonable discussion..."
The last sentence bears re-reading I suppose.
I think Frank would take the comparison as fightin’ words😉

What @sardonicus87 and @The Libertine said... at least by my understanding.

Cavendish-ing is a specific process that involves curing (or re-curing) the tobacco with pressure and steam which leeches certain chemicals (flavors) out of it. This is why it's used so much in aromatics, great flavor absorber/carrier. Now, they can also be left unflavored too.

Casing and topping seem to have less of a distinction. The difference between them is more in purpose than in process. Both involve essentially just pouring/mixing a chemical or flavouring with the already cured tobacco. However casing tends to be very light and more neutral chemicals/flavors where the purpose is to just mellow out the edges of the natural tobacco so that the basic flavor remains essentially the same ("tobacco forward" as they say) whereas topping is to specifically change/add a significantly detectable and different flavor to the tobacco (hence the word topping.. the flavor is literally dumped 'on top of' the leaf itself)

At least that's always been my layman's understanding...

These videos by Glynn Quelch (former owner of GQ Tobaccos in the Uk) are a good run down of all the different cavendishes.

Video 1: introduction
Video 2: American Black Cavendish
Video 3: Dark Virginia Cavendish
Video 4: Dutch Cavendish
Video 5: English Black Cavendish

Awesome catalog of knowledge about a topic I'd always wondering about diving deeper on. Sweet! Thank you for reminding me why I stick around here (apart from all your guys' kindness, understanding, sterling personalities and warm acts of friendship, that is :ROFLMAO: 😝😉)

I get it that they supposedly have different purposes, but essentially they seem to be the exact same process with different names, you soak the tobacco with some flavorings and then press it. Apparently Cavendish tobaccos go through the same process twice. Am I missing something?
Casing doesn't involve pressing.
