Chestnuts smoke well, the black shell has a bitter taste. These pipes are overpriced. Check the site of James Barber, an old time English tobacconist to compare prices. You can save up to $150. after paying for shipping.

Wow, an extraordinary selection of pipes. I especially like the sandblasted one, but I forsaken any desire to own a Dunhill: they are simply too expensive when I have Stenwells, Savinellis, Catellos, and of course my beloved Petersons that smoke just as well. On the other hand, it does seem to be an omission to not have a Dunhill in one's collection if one is a serious collector. I guess it comes down to how seriously you take the hobby, and if your pocketbook can handle it. Mine can't, and never will. But that's my situation. I'd rather use the dough for an iPad.

I't somehow never ceases to amaze me at the passion that arises when the D word comes around. Theres always the ones who believe they're overpriced average pipes, those who say you can better spend your money. The one fact that's undeniable.... no other brand creates such passionate feeling. Those who are fans of the brand seem to hide which is weird because in a market very defiantly ruled by supply and demand, people must passionately love Dunhills, far more than just respecting the brand... Otherwise prices would fall, but on the contrary. They are rising and fast!!! There seems here to be far more haters and passionate apathy than lovers. I think that's interesting.
Ps. I love that shell 3101, but chestnuts are always beautiful.

You can equate it with fans of the New York Yankees. I love them and I have suffered untold aspersions from people who absolutely hate them and can never understand why anyone would love them. I guess Dunhill is the Yankees of the pipe world.

You will love it, congrats. I bought a 1964 bent Dublin (I think I am right about the shape, not an expert) & love it. It's my Sunday afternoon pipe. My favorite.

All I know is I can't wait to get it. I can always smoke it in a darkened closet in the upstairs bedroom to avoid being seen with it. :D

Group 3's are small, small, small. I personally would nou but anything under a group 5 anymore. Group 4's are OK, but still not big enough for me.

I like big bowls myself but group 3's with cube cut flake are a nice long slow smoke.

Just paid for the 1965 Dunhill (my birth year) from Michael.
Now I just have to wait to receive it. I've picked out London Mixture and Old Dublin for my first couple of smokes.

I haven't tried either, but they are both sitting in the cellar as I try to control myself. I know I'll love them and I'm sure you will too!

Thanks, I did am I'm glad I did so. Once you try Old Dublin and London Mixture I'll bet you fall in love with them like I have. Tasty blends.

I received the pipe today. Beautiful pipe that is restored to where it looks like new. I still can't believe I lucked into a Dunhill made in my birth year that I could afford. I also can't believe it made it to Georgia from Washington state in two days, I was very surprised and pleased when I opened the mailbox this afternoon.
I highly recommend Michael and his company Briar Blues.

Congratulations on finding your birth year Dunhill. Some MM cobs and inexpensive pipes may smoke well, perhaps even better than your new pipe, but there is no accounting for taste and a personal connection to a pipe. I suspect you will cherish this pipe and make an heirloom of it. Not many inexpensive pipes can claim that status.
