Average price of the three at SP $450, for that kind of money, I would be taking a long hard look at the pipes BrirBlues is going to list on his next update. As others have said, I would rather have an older vs a newer Dunhill. Mike Gluker is an excellent seller, and a pipe from him is going to come clean and ready to go. I would not hesitate to buy from him, I've been very happy with every pipe I've bought from BriarBlues.

I have discarded the idea of buying a new one thanks to everyone here's input. I have my eye on one he has for sale. I've asked him if he can hold it for me for a couple of weeks until I have the funds to buy it. I'd really like to have it as it was made the same year I was born. I just hope it doesn't sell before I can buy it.

if you want a Dunhill get yourself a Dunhill.. I knew when I saw the title how this thread was going to go. you buy anything else and you will be thinking every time you smoke it you should have bought the Dunhill.

I've always been curious as to if the Dunhill pipes were worth the price point. I'm more of a one-off so like the Morta pipe I just bought I know that there aren't two like it in the world. To me that's really more of a draw, now would I like to have a Dunhill just to say I've got one or to say yea I've smoked one sure. But if I'm going to spend 300+ on a pipe I'd much rather have a one of a kind piece.

This Dunhill topic has been beaten more times than all the wives and kids of players in the NFL combined. Dunhill's carry a legendary reputation in the pipe world, and deservedly so, as they are one of the oldest and most well respected brands in the world. If you want a Dunhill, get one. I own 1, a '75 root briar apple straight shape, and i pretty much bought it to see what all the hype was about and say that i own at least 1 dunhill. Would i do it again? Yes, the pipe smokes very well and it is a 40 year old piece of history. I think that is cool. Others may not. I do think Dunhill's are extremely overpriced BRAND NEW, especially with the widely discussed issues they have these days with quality control and living in the shadow of what they once were. I'd take a Castello any day of the week over a Dunhill.
Bottom line, if you have the money and think it is worth it, buy a new Dunhill. If you want to save money and get a possibly better smoking pipe, buy an older estate Dunhill. In any order, it sounds like you are set on a Dunhill and i think Dochudson is spot on in that if you do not buy the damn Dunhill, you will probably always wish you did every time you light up whatever pipe you bought instead.
Good luck on whatever you decide and let us know how it goes!

+ 1 Doc re the regret and the MM! Do it - you can do the others later, when PAD really has it's claws into you.
My MM are all wonderful smokers. I bought them thinking that they would be disposable, but (provided you replace the stems or buy Forevers) they last bloody years. I even just reamed one to see what would happen and it's great! Smooth as a baby's bum and tastes divine. Who knew?

I like the Shell Briar (3101), but as many have stated for that money there are plenty of options. However, I highly doubt you'll regret adding a nice Dunhill to you collection.
Pull the trigger!

don't know your age but if you're fairly young and a birth year would be reasonabe price wise you could kill two itches with one purchase. but, of the 3 you have linked disregarding the prices I like the black shell the best.

You earned the money. It's yours. Buy the Dunhill and enjoy the hell out of it.

I personally think Dunhill pipes are somewhat overrated. Sometimes I expend more money than I should on a wimp expecting that pipe to be it, but only to find myself smoking on one of my cheapest ones some time later on as they smoke best. I am like my cat in this respect, and this is the reason why I don't buy expensive toys for her any more. You go and buy your cat a state of the art toy with all the bells and whistles on, but she ends up playing with an onion peal she finds on the kitchen floor totally disregarding it like it was given to you for free. Because of this, as on average, and based on past experiences, now I will spend some £100/£200 on a pipe if I think it is worth it, but to go beyond that will be out of question. This is not so more as I lack the money, but due to the fact I don't think they are worth it. Not that any pipe will do it for me, but I think it is sensible to have this approach. And the problem with Dunhill is that they don't seem to give you good value for money.

I've abandoned the idea of buying a new one. Michael at Briar Blues has one that is exactly what I am looking for made in my birth year for a fraction of the cost of a new one. He has graciously agreed to hold it for me for a short time. I'm glad I put this thread up because otherwise I wouldn't have found the pipe at Briar Blues. Thanks everyone.

1965, this one. I can't believe I found it. I'm pretty stoked. What a piece of history.
FANTASTIC! Great looking pipe, lovely cross grain, 34 grams, nice classic F/T stem, your birth year, I don't think the "issues" are going to affect how it smokes. I'd call it a winner!

That Dunhill "Chestnut" is a nice pipe but papipeguy that Bulldog with the leopard skin wrap on the stem it an absolutely gorgeous pipe, to me the best description would be "orgasmic", where did you get it and how much if you don't mind my asking

Thanks for the advice. I owe this find to you. I really can't believe he had the exact shape and finish I wanted and in my birth year to boot. I guess I should go buy a lottery ticket. Thanks again.
