My first serious foray into English blends was Pembroke. It's still pretty aromatic but not the goop I was smoking. I was talked into buying an 8 ounce bag of it, which indecently was the most tobacco I had ever purchased at once and had never smoked before. Talk about nervous.
This was at the 2nd NASPC show and I had only been into pipes a year or so, but it was like a light bulb went off on what pipe smoking is really like. Even picked up my first hand made pipe there, an S&R paneled billiard for $75. Another stretch for me because I had been smoking the 3 for $49 basket pipes until then.
It's been downhill ever since... :puffy:
