Honestly? If I had to buy new, I'd go for 2 of the unsmoked Trypis pipes in that price range. If I had to buy from one of the sponsors, I'd go for a Hilson special oiled from Al Pascia. My real preference though is to save $50 more and get a Ryan Alden. He's got a pipe now on his site that has a beautiful blast and 2 stems, a churchwarden bent and a regular straight, that will smoke better than anything in the price range. You can even pay him in timely installments. I have no affiliation with him, I just am a die-hard fan of his pipes.

That's only $97.50 per pipe. You're practically saving money that way.
Seriously, if $150 is within your budget, you'd do well to save your loose change for a few more weeks and buy a Ryan Alden or a Mark Tinsky pipe. Both make some nice pipes for $200 or less. My preference would be Alden, but Tinsky pipes are well made.
Actually, Tinksy's prices start at $150 for most shapes and $140 for a regular billiard. That's an AMAZING deal. Alden's pipes are better IMHO, but still.

I've gotten way too many 100$ plus estate pipes for 12-20$ to even touch this question. 100+ estate as I'll find these estate pipes for over 100$ on ebay after I've purchased them for 12-20$

Maybe I'm missing something, but the recommendations on the Ryan Alden pipes??? All I see there are $195 and up. Nice pipes but out of price range.

Jeesh -- triple question marks? I thought we made it pretty clear that we knew we were deviating from the $150 stated in the OP:

Didn't mean to put you out, but the rec was made in the spirit of good will.

Pitchfork, didn't mean to ruffle your feathers with my ??? But you posted these pipes were $95... not so, least expensive was $195. I didn't mean to get you upset at all. Just wanted to clarify that I might be missing something? The pipes look great but not in the $200 market right now. Thanks for your input.

Oh... Now I see what you mean. The other poster mentioned the pipe with two stems for $195. I (jokingly) noted that this amounted to $97.50 per pipe. Clearly that was unclear. Sorry about that.
Feathers duly unruffled...

The only one I have found in recent years is a L'Anatra sandblast, which costs about $130. L'Anatra means duck in Italian.

I would suggest Tsuge, Savinelli, and Chacom. I have one of each of these that were right in your price range. I bought them to build up my rotation when I started smoking. All are of really nice quality and are are still mainstays in my rotation.

I am also looking at buying a Brigham at around that price range. I have heard really good things, but don't have personal experience (yet).

Is a Caminettio worth $100? Estate pipe in great shape? Says its a 8 L 14 but I'm not finding anything on it. Doesn't look like the ones I can find online.

I don't know about than one, it's been on EBay for a few weeks now and he finally went from buy it now to an auction because no one bit. It looks decent if you like the shape, the main reason I passed on it is I can't tell from the last picture if that is severe rim char or something that I can clean up relatively easily or not. It could just be accidentally blurry, or it could be intentionally blurry to hide the severity of the char, so I didn't pull the trigger on it.
In general, Caminettos are excellent pipes that, like Ascortis, sell for much less than their retail on the estate market (the Ascorti patriarch was one of the old Caminetto mainstays until there was a falling out and he started Ascorti with his son, the son reviving the Caminetto brand that exists now, owned by the Ascortis).
I'm on an Italian pipe kick these days and have learned far to much about them for my own good . . .

Great info, Dread !!! I'm in the bidding on that one but not gonna go any farther than I have. I'm a little concerned on the top of bowl too, but the guy selling it has a good rating. We will see. Thanks for your input and info.

Well, I didn't pull the trigger on the buy it now. Had I not just acquired 3 Radice, one Ser Jacopo, One Ascorti, and one older Stanwell in a fit of PAD I would certainly be bidding on it and taking the chance. I'd just rather take my winnings and leave the table before the dealer (AKA my wife) flips out.

I didn't want to post this at the top of the thread, but if I were in your shoes, I'd buy two unfinished Savenelli's from Pipe and Leaf,

one of our sponsors, for about $110. This would give you two excellent pipes that will be unfiltered, unlike most Savenellis, and

will have all the good Sav smoking characteristics, and more of a rotation if you put them with a few excellent Missouri Meerschaum

corn cob pipes. I'd go for one straight and one bent Sav. These come with lucite stems. The unfinished briar will finish itself to a

golden brown. I have two Sav unfinished pipes I bought 35-plus years ago and they still smoke as good as any. I bought a new

one from Pipe and Leaf at a recent pipe show, a panel billiard (maybe their last?). Anyway, for great smoking at a reasonable price,

this is a good answer.

mso489, I assume you are referring to the "Series III" pipes?

For that range, I definitely fall in with the Stanwell crowd. I love my Sixtus (an older line designed by Sixten Ivarrsen) and would buy any of their pipes in that range. Though I would look into finding a Danish pipe on ebay, which is how I got mine for $70.
