I was unsure what he meant. He said char the “chimney,” which is part of the lighter, and to me, inconsequential. I’m not sure. Maybe he did mean the rim of the bowl. ?

The wind guard of the zippo. It’s called the chimney I believe. ?Why would charring the chimney of the lighter be bad? All of mine have a nice layer of carbon on them. Wait, what part is the chimney of the lighter?
Ahhhh, that's what I was thinking, but then I started to wander...The wind guard of the zippo.
But I think maybe the OP meant the rim of the pipe?Ahhhh, that's what I was thinking, but then I started to wander...
The thought crossed my mind, too. When I read the title I thought this was about pipe photography. ?
So did I.When I read the title I thought this was about pipe photography. ?
I was going to say outdoors out of direct sunlight. ?So did I.
That or a good light box.?I was going to say outdoors out of direct sunlight. ?
Very Nice! I love my Dunhill, Dupont and Davidoff pipe lighters! IMO The pipe flame is far and away superior to a straight flame lighter. ?I stopped searching once I got a Dupont Line1 with the barrel flame-adjuster & a Pipe-Flame nozzle.

IM Corona Old Boy for me. I love that lighter. I use my Zippo for cigars. What is your best lighter implement for your pipes. I have problems with Zippos, which char the chimney in no time, butanes fail to produce a flame reliability, and matches wear out a friction strip after a few strikes. What do you use?
Nerd alert: What you're talking about is the survivor paradox. There has never been a time when companies made things that lasted. It's just when a company does make something that lasts it lasts. So all the average made to break crap breaks and in a few decades only the well made long lasting stuff is still around. So it creates this illusion that people made things better back in the day. Seriously people will be saying the same thing about stuff made now in 40 years. Wow this thing from 2020 is still working man they made stuff to last back then. Sorry sometimes I can't keep my inner nerd suppressed.Old Boy, without a doubt. I bought a Sillem's version and it wasn't a cheap purchase, for me anyway.
The thing is so weighty and well made. It sort of harks back to the days when companies made things that lasted.
o.k. this answers the question about Brobs wife. Apparently he can't tell the difference between a woman and a pipe. Hence his wife is actually a pipe and that's why she keeps buying him tobacco. I knew it would make sense eventually. just teasing. They prefer candlelight or mood lighting if you're trying to get them in your mouth.
Thanks! No, I just love 'em!Nice looking lighter. Were you a Prowler pilot? Just looking at your username.
Nope, mine is authentic, & also a different model from the ones that are copied. Anyway, I find that my model is much easier to use for piping. Enjoy yours, but they're not the same & not as good as their authentic counterparts.I RoCK a FaUXpONt sAmE THiNg
Thanks! I have a Dupont Lighter Owners Club thread here for your Dupont & Davidoff-branded Dupont stuff, feel free to post 'em up!Very Nice! I love my Dunhill, Dupont and Davidoff pipe lighters! IMO The pipe flame is far and away superior to a straight flame lighter. ?
