I remember... no Internet. Pretty simple as that.

Well, okay.. maybe not THAT simple. I was born in the Blizzard of 1993, so technically there was internet even before I was conceived. Perhaps I should clarify, I FIRMLY remember the WORLD as it existed before the internet-ification of LITERALLY FRICKIN' EVERYTHING. Sure, it existed... heck, it was even starting to be "widely" adopted into my formative years... but it looked and acted EXTREMELY different than today.

Back then, in my middle class corner of the world, even IF people had internet through the 90's-00's it was almost always via 1 single computer... generally in a shared space of the home. It was utilized intermittently for various tasks and entertainments.. but that was pretty much all it was. Yes, I grew up with technology as it developed... but I had the fortune of being the absolute last generation who was raised where a majority of us had developed our brains properly enough by the ages we were being introduced to it.

The result? I still remember how life and humans used to function... as in properly/naturally as they had for untold millennia beforehand. The effect? Even though I am half the age of probably a majority of members here, I can still RELATE to you all. I still remember the dynamics you are all speaking of here... sure I may not remember something in the 70's personally... but I remember learning about it through my (grand)parents because I still possess the skills to communicate with them and am able to conceptualize a world that wasn't that much different than the one I formed my personhood in. Sure, the prices and hot actresses and music may have been different... but the VERY FABRIC of our society and culture had not yet been (purposefully or not) utterly hijacked.

They are actually concluding now, from ever more scientific studies, that folks who were born around the turn of the millennium, give or take, are literally not the same. The biological circuitry of our brains are literally wired differently. That's why many folks from my specific age group many times find more in common with those 30-50 years older than us than those even 5-10 years younger than us. The combination of social media and 24/7 private internet access (via smartphones) being introduced to youngsters today from practically popping out the womb is being shown to cause severe anxiety, stress, attention deficit, IQ deficiency, and an overall warped view of reality.

I sincerely mourn the loss of development and wonder what so many of the newer generations were robbed of.. usually out of ignorance and/or laziness by those who were supposed to be nurturing them. Of course all hope is not lost... there are factions of us millennials who are ever more awakening to these deleterious effects and finding ways to minimize them. My girlfriend and I are working towards our goal of buying a farmstead and raising a (god-willing) large family who are raised and loved in a manor more consistent with wholesome and traditional human nature... but sad to say we are still in the very narrow minority...

Anybody here ever caddy at a golf course on weekends? I’m talking back before golf carts. and carrying a double (2 bags). Leaving them with their clubs then rushing up ahead to mark where their ball landed. Of course being a skinny 8th grader the guys I usually got had the huge bags loaded with clubs, umbrella, rain gear, balls, etc……. and we got either $3 or $4 per bag and maybe a buck or two tip of they had a good game……..

Yep. I can relate to all of this. But my parents bought a computer in 04.

In fact... back 10 years ago I moved my family into the sticks, where internet couldn't follow. Even with an an hour and a half drive to work, it was great.

And I mean we could barely keep a signal for a phone call.

I had noticed these things you mention and acted.

But in 2020 they came in and put up cell towers all around us, and suddenly things changed.

We're still a loving family, with no real issues... but that closeness created by the lack of cable or internet cannot be replaced.

Fun fact: I read Pipesmagazine back then because it's about all I could do with my phone. Haha

The whole scripted matches thing came from the fact that certain wrestlers were so good that people stopped enjoying their matches and it slowed ticket sales. People knew that guy always wins. So at first only the main event matches became scripted. Another thing people don't realize either is that sometimes the match is scripted from start to finish and sometimes it's just the out come and the wrestlers can either choose to script out the whole thing themselves or choose to improvise and actually see who really would have won. The whole thing isn't "real" but there is more real in there then people think.
Though apperantly the fakest thing in wrestling was having to pretend to like and respect certain faces.
I watched a short video on the WWE. The most important things we becoming a wrestler was a person's ability to read a script and choreography

Patience. The boredom urge via insomnia has made me dependent on external stimuli. Especially at night.

But the mental capacity has diminished significantly. Look at those online "life hack" videos.

It's now a major proud moment when a person puts out a hack video where they show them discord a soak in penetrating oil followed by a heat gun can get a sticky nut off a bolt.

I remember you could say what you wanted and idiots wouldn't use bizarre theories to decide everything was "hurtful".

When people wouldn't wear bondage gear in public.

People were brave enough to tell othersoffdor doing nasty things in public.

Gun related stuff on YouTube not being behind age verification barrier, but the porn WAS

I remember when a pack of cigs were $0.75 in NYC. Now it's $9.00 even down here in the south.
That's a wild price for NYC wow lol

Yeah I'm in PA so we're generally the middle of the road on cigs vs low NC or high NY. And for vacation we'd travel those states decently.
Well, I remember back when a pack of cigs here was like what it is now in NC whereas (at that same time) what they are now is what they used to be in NYC.
And the sad part.... I'm talking like 7-10 years ago lol, not decades

I remember riding in the back seat of a Pinto. Windows that rolled down with a crank, and had to, because there was no air conditioning. Triangular vent windows next to the dash. AM radio only. And a decade later, having a toolbox always in the car (not the Pinto!) in case it broke down, and being able to fix it if it did.

Going to the movie theater as a kid with a dollar...75 cents for a "junior" ticket, 15 cents for a box of popcorn, and 10 cents for a coke.

EDIT: and most of the movies were actually worth seeing.
