I am pretty new to the site but have several pipe styles in my small collection; clay, hand carved, metal and reed, half bent dublin, half bent billiard, demi-churchwarden, Canadian, billiard and just reconditioned what may have opened my eyes. An older Kaywoodie 7740, which I believe is a Lovat style, or close to it? 5” long, saddle stem, lightweight, comfortable, and great smaller sized bowl which I really like. I was worried it was going to be a hot smoke with the shorter stem, but I love it! It appealed to me as soon as I found it in the shop.

I walked around the garden today with that little pipe and of all my pipe styles, I think this is love! I think it will make a great outdoors and camping pipe style, and is so easy to smoke while keeping my hands free during activity’s and slips right into my pocket.

I liked it so much I just ordered two more older London made Lovat “basket” pipes off EvilBay. A few cheaper pipes just in case they get lost in the woods or crushed in my backpack which has been known to happen, but in this new to me style. I can’t wait to get them and see if this style really works out me.

One of the great things about this shape is the extended shank means the draft hole is actually quite large through most of the length of the pipe, where stems are normally drilled quite narrow compared to the shank. You should generally get a better draw on the Canadain family pipes (Canadian, Lovat, Lumberman, Liverpool).

I have 3 Rad Davis Lovats and one Jack Howell Lovat. All 4 smoke great. My first Lovat was a mind blowing Rad Dais Lovat. That one pipe opened my eyes to show me how great American artists could be. It smoked cool and dry even in the Florida heat. Here is my first ever Lovat my first Rad Davis, it was brand new.

This Lovat is what started my Rad Davis obsession. It is a great pipe that I still use on a regular basis. I dedicated it to Vapers from the get go. I bought it new from Marty Pulvers.
My next one was I believe one of my commissions from Rad.
Here it is and it is dedicated to my batch of 2007 Stonehaven.

My last Rad Lovat is this beauty. I love the blast on this one. and I dedicate it to my stash of 2007 Stonehaven.

My last Lovat is this Jack Howell work horse. It doesn't matter what I smoke in it, the pipe performs like a champ. This pipe has some nice grain to it and it needs some quality pictures.

Yup i do enjoy a well made lovat as it is very close to a well made Billiard, another favorite shape.

Beautiful pipes Cigrmaster! That makes me want a custom pipe!

Most my pipes are seconds or unmarked basket or vintage estate pipes, I do not have any top shelf pipes yet but that is some beautiful work!

My new pipes shipped, I can hardly wait. I love that sandblasted Rad and the Howell!

I do tend to be drawn to bent pipes as they appeal to me more and are comfortable. I got this Kaywoodie as it was old and cheap. I enjoy restoring things and it made a good project. I am glad I did as it really opened my eyes to other possibilities and showed me some of the strengths in a straight pipe!

The lovat is my favorite pipe shape, in terms of pure aesthetics. It just looks lean and has a sort of motion to it. It’s like a really sick looking sports car that looks like it’s going 100 mph when it’s standing still… that’s the impression I get from lovat’s. Glad to see there is another convert, nice looking pipes you got there!
