So I had worked out a little trade with a member here (krizzose) a week or two ago for when I return home from vacation. It was for a blend he had from 2013. He messages me today quite concerned that he believes he actually bought this in 2014 and it did not have a date code proving 2013. Apologies, understanding if I decide to not go through with the trade, etc..

I was humbled by his integrity but not in the least surprised. Pretty common it seems for this forum and pipe smokers in general. Of course, I had to bust his balls a little with the first sentence of my response but promptly thanked him for his honesty and let him know it didn't matter in the least to me and looked forward to completing the trade when I return home. I think one of the best treats in life is to interact with people with impeccable integrity. Thanks krizzose for your honesty and integrity.

Totally agree, could you imagine what a great place the world would be if it were populated exclusively by the likes of the good folk here. No need to lock your doors, no contracts (a man's word is his promise), jails virtually empty etc etc. Even allowing for small hic-ups which happens on here occasionally, it would be a much better world.

Now if we can get a resurgence in pipe smoking we may take some steps in the right direction.

As an add on, I would like to add cartridge collector club folks and history buffs into the mix as well. I am sure there are other groups were honesty and integrity are core principles for those individuals.

This is going to sound odd, but this reminded me of the late, great pipe smoker Buddy Winemuller, who passed away several years ago. In the Baltimore area, Buddy was a legend among pipe smokers. He went to the world championship slow smoking contest in Hungary one year, but mainly he was just a gentle giant with a big heart and more integrity than I could even begin to describe.

After he died, of all the things I came across online, was a tribute to him on a boat racing forum. He loved to race boats, and a guy told a story about racing against him in the 80’s. Buddy had just souped his boat up with a new engine with all the trimmings and was leading the pack. This guy pulled out ahead toward the end, and Buddy inched towards him neck and neck and could’ve passed him and blew him away....but he didn’t! After the race, the guy asked Buddy why the hell didn’t you pass me? Buddy said well I just put all these new bells and whistles on my boat, and you ran such a great race....I just didn’t have the heart to pass you.

This will probably seem crazy and weird to you guys, but to me it’s everything I loved about Buddy. The generosity, honesty, and integrity. I miss him a lot, but reading threads like these reminds me how much integrity is in this community and it makes me smile!

carry on lol!

Buddy was a great guy and a true original who stood out in a hobby rich in characters. Seeing him in Chicago or at the Kaywoodie show was always a highlight. It’s nice to see him remembered; thank you Scott.

I used to ride up to the Newark show with him every year! If you didn’t have a pipe lit within 10 min upon entering his car, he would sternly remind you, THIS IS A SMOKING VEHICLE! Lol!

I am very happy to have in my possession one of his pipes, a Peterson Mark Twain. Would have killed to have gotten some of his prized Kaywoodie pipes though!

and imagine if you didn't have that boost. You might still be trying to argue with a box of rocks. By the way there is nothing dumb about a box of rocks!
I always say the same thing to her. Look how useful a box of rocks can be. You can make borders around your garden with em, weight things down with em so they don't blow away, throw em through your neighbors windows, tons of uses for a box of rocks.

I was going to say you never know when you'll need a rock, they're pretty useful. Also really good at keeping certain people away if used properly. In other words it's smart to have a box of rocks. Now a bag of rocks or hammers is just stupid. Maybe she needs to start pipe smoking cause clearly she is confusing a box with a bag.
