With a bit of spare time on my hands, I decided to explore the idea of dedicating certain pipes to certain blends.
I made up a relational database of all my pipes and blends, charted up all the possible combinations and permutations of bowl shape, size and how they affect the smoke. Ran the results through an intensive analysis paying attention of blend strength, flavouring, room note and nicotine content and constituent leaf. I read dozens of reviews, forum threads and watched too many youtube videos to count.
After a process not dissimilar to a confirmation hearing for a Supreme Court Judge, I've come to a final conclusion.
I've decided that each and every single pipe I own will be dedicated to......pipe tobacco.
Now, crawling back under my rock. Wake me up when its time for dinner.

Incidentally, that is your 666th post, and I read it right after coming home from Mass.
Would you say that while you might not be able to find any differences in blends in different pipes, another pipe smoker might?
Interesting findings though :puffpipe:

The 666 thing was purely coincidental..I swear.
I will readily admit to either not noticing a big difference or not caring. I know, I'm an absolute Phillistine with a not so discerning palate :)
The real message behind my post was that I've come to realize that pipe smoking is about as personal and individual as anything can get to be. We can take it to any level of generality or minutiae we like and all be absolutely correct.
And yes, I like beer. I drink beer

A very wise decision. I tried some spoon tobacco in one of my pipes the other day and it was just awful.

I am with you on this... I have some briars and cobs for trying new aromatics and have been in situations where said pipes were used to try a new Va/Per and I can not taste the “ghosting” everyone talks about. I grew tired of trying to find a pipe that had rested for 24 hours for the blend that I wanted to smoke that day. Now I enjoy whatever tobacco in whatever pipe and it makes life much easier.

+1. And on top of this I trashed the concept of caking which is gross to me. I clean the pipe with 30 sec running under hot water after smoking so there is really no ghosting to start with and I enjoy any tobacco on them without any fear.

We (by which I mean people who care enough about this hobby to spend a shockingly high number of hours on internet fora discussing it) have a tendency to delight in making things complicated, largely for the sake of the ritual aspects of pipe smoking, and not so much for the taste aspects.
I spent the first five or so years of my smoking life smoking anything I wanted in any pipe. Nowadays I have two groups of pipes: Latakia blend pipes, and everything else. It works for me, but I'm not going to judge someone else's way of doing things.
My own heresies lie more in smoking multiple bowls in the same pipe without a rest, and in using an embarrassingly small number of pipe cleaners.

I saw somewhere on here that one guy used pipes for growing plants, but thus far I've used mine only for smoking pipe tobacco. Perhaps that'll change over time.

I designate pipes to blend types more for the ritual of it than solid reasoning/ghosting fears. Enjoy the pipe tobacco!

I haven't had issues pipe to blend, but I do believe regular cleaning goes a long way.

Well, Bassbug, you've the advantage that you don't smoke latakia. I tried a VaPer (H&H's El Niño) in a cob where I had previously smoked EMP and all I tasted was latakia. Guess there's something about dedicating a pipe, if not to a blend, at least to a genre after all.

Latakia= Nectar of the Gods!
As someone said, it's a personal choice.
And ghosting is no problem for me, as I flush out my pipes regularly, and I haven't smoked an aromatic in a very long time, and have never sampled a Lakeland, though I will some day.

I must confess, I too share this shame. I wish, I really do, that could taste the amazing nuances of the Unicorn farts I have read about. But alas that is not the case for me. I am not a complete neanderthal, I can tell an English, Lakeland, Burley, and Virginia apart. But I have never tasted "sunshine across a wheatfield" as an example. (Nor have I ever smoked a bowl to a "fine white ash" but that is a confession for another thread lol) I do enjoy my pipes and tobacco immensely even without said ability.
Someone in the forum has in his signature line "Smoke what you like and like what you smoke". Thousand ways to smoke a pipe and as long as you enjoy yours then your doing it right!

Bass, you're just a mess. Of course I've said that about you before, too, so....
I agree with you on that, but we DO need to talk about that bad attitude about latakia. }:)

bnicholls I've tried, I really have...I WANT to like it, but it has proven to be a cruel mistress, inflicting untold headaches and that feeling you used to get as a kid stepping of the merry go round right after your friends have spun it around till you turn that shade of green we all know
