A buddy of mine just turned 50 and started skateboarding (he did in his youth). He's taken some spills, but has gotten pretty good and is having alot of fun with it. I get a kick out of watching him. Protection is important, and be careful.

When I was around 10 or 11, my father brought me a skateboard from states. Used to ride that thing around a parking lot. But nothing like what the kids are doing nowadays. Yupe, helmet and pads. No wrist guards. I know if I fall on my hands, I'm gonna break my wrists. Have to practice rolling out of fall. Some good things I still remember from martial arts.

This. My buddy said more than anything, he had to learn to fall without landing like a wood board. He just kinda rolls with is.
Man it scares me. I'll go up to the skate park with him at random and get on a board, just cruising bowls and around the park. It's so fun but it's alot different when your older - I'm only 30 and the falls hurt far more worse than at 12

I'll be 62 in one month. I've been in the restaurant business for 43 years.
Since no one every says "hey, look at that healthy restaurant guy", I started riding a bicycle pretty seriously three years ago. Last year, I rode almost 2,000 miles. I rode 61 miles on my birthday in just over three hours. This year, I've ridden 600 miles on my trainer in winter, and planned to break my record at 62 miles in August

I came back from a beach/snorkeling vacation in May with a sore hip. That was odd, since i've never had any muscle or bone ailments. I tried stretching, then PT . PT nearly killed me, and I went to the ER two weeks ago. They somehow managed to give me an MRI and told me I have a fractured hip, and the other one isn't great either.
I had hoped to not know about bone replacements until I was 75 or so. But, in two weeks, I get a hip replacement.

The doc says I'll be back on my bike in six weeks,stronger than ever. Here's hoping he is right. Don't take your health for granted and savor every moment!

PS: I'll hopefully get that 62 mile ride in early in October, that is my target

Two or three speed walks around the neighborhood every day, and a trip to the dog park every morning. Since getting Bruce my average daily steps are double what they were previously. I've always lifted weights and been decently muscular, but fat. Now that I'm past 40 I need to stop being so fat.

Did I mention I'll be 56 this year? Bones are brittle and broke couple last few years. Muscles are wasting way. So, I just purchased resistance bands and a bar to work out. And a skateboard and protections. Gotta do something about it before things start to fall off. Off to practice break falls. At least I remember them.
You're the same age as this guy:


Your genetic potential goes down by 1% every year past the age of 25, so right now you're sitting at about 70% of your absolute best, but what most people don't consider is if your absolute peak potential was around a 1,000lb squat/deadlift, then "today" you should still be able to do 700lbs... assuming you had been training consistently for 10 years prior.

Lucky for you it doesn't take 10 years to see results, muscle gains in strength training is very front loaded.
Put good effort into lifting twice a week and whatever your starting strength is you'll be at least twice as strong after the first year, and depending on how light your starting weight was you might still double your strength again in the second year.
Year three is where things slow down and you hit the intermediate phase.

#1 best advice I can give to anyone is buy a lifting cage, it lets you set safety pins at any height so you can actually rest the bar on the cage pins at the bottom of your rep, zero chance of ever being trapped or crushed by your weights.
Once you're free to lift without fear you'll find strength training becomes a lot more fun.

Hey man I wish you the best of luck with your skateboarding endeavor. That sounds like lots of fun. I love watching professional skating parts on YouTube but oddly enough I don’t skate myself. You’ve gotta do whatever you enjoy the most to get yourself active for sure. Diet is a massive component as well.

Don't need diet, at least for me. My max weight was 180 lbs in high school while wrestling. Since then, never went over 155 lbs. Did hit 130 lbs once. I'm 5' 10". Diabetes run in the family. I have one off one where I don't get fat. Just get fucked over.

I`m 68 and I`ve been hiking nearly every day for the past three years. In May I got pretty bad tendonitis in my knees from overuse. Couldnt do stairs at all . Right now I`m pretty well healed up,and hiking every day again
This is why I began training Triathlon, you get to spread the wear&tear across three different movements.
My favorite part of watching the Iron Man competition is all the 60-80 year old people finishing at the end.
