Did I mention I'll be 56 this year? Bones are brittle and broke couple last few years. Muscles are wasting way. So, I just purchased resistance bands and a bar to work out. And a skateboard and protections. Gotta do something about it before things start to fall off. Off to practice break falls. At least I remember them.

Mate, I SO hear ya!
I'm approaching 60 and go to the gym for weights and core training as well as cardio (jogging, exterior only) as much as I can, when my body allows me to.
I also try to eat as decently (i.e., reasonably, right choices) as I can.
Keeping the extra weight off as much as possible is key in this war as it prevents health complications. And it's proven that taking care of oneself helps significantly to cope with the aging process.

Used to cycle 14 - 15 miles every day. Before that, martial art. It stopped when my older son went to college. Then my health started getting worse. Need to do something about it. Maybe something new will work out, and I can add cycling back into it. Martial art is completely out. Can't move fast enough, and don't enjoy getting hit. Did yoga for a bit. It was good, but I suck at getting along with other people unless I can hit them.

... resistance bands and a bar....
Are these the things that former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (NV, RIP) used to accidentally tune himself up, supposedly? If so, and Sen. Reid didn't have any outside help beating himself up, those dang things must be scarey dangerous -- I'm guessing an orbital bone might be hard to break with a rubber band in your bathroom.

Good luck with your plan to tone up, my orthopod pushes stationary bikes and not walking or running. I like lunting (sheesh, what a goofy word LOL, but I sure enjoy doing it daily--almost as much as a no carb cheap scotch or moderate Irish whiskey, a long hot bath, and a successful "constitutional," and a dog rocket stogey or bowl).

Best wishes and cheers to making the good effort!
kindly
Mike

Also if you feel brittle, aside from milk I recommend the following natural low-cost supplements: glucosamine + chondroitin + MSM (all in 1 pill) as well as horsetail. Read up on these, maybe they are right for you.

Guys in your fifties and sixties, be of good cheer. One day you will look back on this as your callow youth, your frisky boyhood. On into my eighth decade, seventies that is, and steady as she goes. One weight bearing exercise is changing the cat boxes.

Hell if you're guna die, do it in style! 😂

I skateboarded untill I was 18. Went hard, every day, everywhere, any time. Now I'm 33, I wouldn't touch the thing. Scary thinking back about all the dumb stuff I used to do as a kid....

Whatabuncha wimps.

I'm 69 and rode the DNA-clone-resurrrected Bodacious this morning before breakfast.

Twice.

And then went for a relaxing 420-foot jump on an up-geared motocross bike after lunch, setting a new world distance record:

And I'm gonna spend the evening with this young lady as soon as I finish typing:
