oh well

i got tired of trying to decide if i should cancel my current order and then get a different pipe
then i saw this unfinished dublin - i think i will keep my current order and get this - now i have to find out how to finish it - or if i even have to finish it - is it ok to leave it unfinished ? what about if i don't plan to sell it later ?

after looking at this pipe and searching and reading for a good while about grain types etc -

i can't figure out what grain type is this ( unfinished pipe in previous post )
it does not seem to look like any grain type that i read about

does that mean that there is almost no grain here ?

even so - it looked so cool to me - i couldn't resist
the dots in there almost look like the planets of the solar system and the other swirls kind of look like nebulae and galaxy patterns and magnetic gas plasma horseshoe rocking chair mothers of whistler keychain ornaments ( no wait that sounds more like picasso )
ok just tell me it is ugly and i only bought it to make myself feel better as now i am soothing myself by proxy in caring for this beast
well that is what i heard someone say they thought about pug, bulldog and other ugly - animal owners or other ugly animal - owners, who call them cute
some people think that it is ugly just to own an animal
so i guess it could be true with pipes
i mean - what right do i have to promote the harvesting, processing and subjugation of that briar ?
who died and left me in charge to just take that pipe and puff it ?

rats - that last post was too old to put the link to the picasso reference
Dora_Maar_Au_Chat
hmm i gues the image at the link above is copyright and if i try to put it in here it does not show ? ? ?
anyway it looks like a woman in a rocking chair with her nose on the side of her face and her ear growing out of her left eye
someone paid 14,600,000 dollars for a painting of a malformed ugly dude smoking a pipe ?
searching with the terms below came up with these two different images

The pipe you show, is a cross grain. In the pic you are looking at the end of the grain(birdseye). Front and back of the bowl should have fairly straight grain laying on it's side. Far side should be more birdseye. Gary

I have a savinelli unfinished exaclty like the one pictured. It might be the best smoker I have. Whatever you do don't finish it. It will turn dark brown with handling. Best pipe you can buy for the money.

@ rhogg
you were right

after only one smoke it is much darker already

i am going to leave it just like that

i may like unfinished pipes better than finished ones now !

i think i like the feel and grip better on the bare wood

another thing i think i figured out is that i don't like grain patterns as much as bird's eye

the grain pattern has to be something special for me to like but the bird's eye is almost always interesting
like the difference between cloud patterns and jet chemtrail patterns

clouds appear adventurous but the trails are just bland unless they come together in some kind of concert of motion but that almost never happens
i don't know much about pipes but it is pretty easy to find a good lighter

the pipe smokes really nice and cool compared to my only other no name

the blue lights that you see are on my saitek joystik that is behind the paper

i have a question - does the unfinished pipe get smoother with age or not ?
