I recently got my first tattoo I made sure to wait until I was sure it was something I would not regret having on me forever.

Mine are Japanese inspired

Nice, I love Japanese style tats. I have some Maori inpired ones. 2 of them are on my arm. The one on my forearm matches the pic so it looks like they're circling.

Finally another pic! This thread is worthless without pics :nana: I have three tats. My first was the Lord's Prayer in Scottish Gaelic on my back between my shoulder blades when I was 18 then a skull I drew with flames on my left shoulder and another skull with flames that I let the inker draw and choose the color for on my right...it's purple. Ill have to post up pics lest I be hypocritical. I like the peace sign Ben looks good!

I read years ago that our Jewish brethren, the Sons of Abraham - cannot be buried in consecrated holy ground if their bodies have been defiled with tattoos.
Now, I'm a practicing, weekly mass going, knee bending Episcopalian and it's damned unlikely I'll ever cross over, but if I do, I'm going to have my bases covered and make my entry scarred but un-inked.
Still, I'm fascinated by ink and how people use it to commemorate people, events, special stories and dates in their lives. Perversely, I'm just as fascinated by people with foreign languages and symbols on their skin because they look cool. Maybe a prerequisite of fluency should be required in the language of whatever "chop" is about to be applied.
BTW, I've met very few pre-Vietnam veterans who didn't - repeat - did not regret their service obtained tattoos. Of course, times change and attitudes shift, but, in about 20 years, I'm going to laugh when I see those tribal bicep tats hanging closer to the elbow than the shoulder.

Probably half of the Asian character tattoos I've seen are either "drawn" incorrectly or are meaningless on their own; like having a tattoo of the letters "th".

Depends if you are Orthodox or Reform etc., but one exception is the ID tattoos from the Holocaust. They actually have a ritual where the inked piece of skin is removed and destroyed and the deceased is buried without it.
Edit: Have to add that this is not a requirement as tattoos received against your will are not considered a violation. Some Rabbis may argue that removing the skin may be a worse violation as the body is supposed to remain whole. You'll need a Jewish person for better clarification. I'm just a Goy.

You've done it now Uber. Tattoos are very addictive. Here is my latest one. Took 5.5 hours.

Pic looks like crap; it is a pain to take a picture of your own arm.

As a guy with tattoos on his forearms, I can understand why someone would want them. I plan to get all sleeved up over time, but they can and will screw with your employment and make you subject to being singled out and discriminated against. My advice to any young 'ens who go the tattooed route is to understand that actions have consequences. Be prepared to man up and accept them. If there are any doubts, remember this thread...

Yeah, I have a big Celtic cross on my right forearm, and am pretty sure it has cost me a few jobs. They never came out and said that was the reason but....you know.

@Baron - I thought I knew just about everything concerning the Holocaust but that piece of information you shared is fascinating. Re your edit, it's only right considering the tattoos were put on against their will.
Do we have any Jewish members who could elaborate on this?
Thanks.
