Re-closing the cigar boxes for storage? How usual would that be? I guess I'm not that much of a cigar guy, but is that a standard procedure in smoking sticks? What's the routine?

From a long time ago. Not fully relevant with most modern boxes, but many were sealed by a small nail in front

Hmmm. I can remember the tiny nail that closed the cigar boxes my maternal grandfather had, but they were so light, I could push the nail back with my finger. Maybe packaging used to be sturdier than in the early fifties.
