One very impressive thing is that you got a proper sized pipe. All the pipes I've seen that were labeled as "ladies" pipes made me wonder why women aren't supposed to smoke and enjoy the same sized bowlful a man does.
Congratulations on getting down to business instead of getting something dainty.

The Peterson System 303 (although not rustic) was my first real pipe too. The system works really well although you have to make sure to clean it properly as it really collects stuff in there. I use some very strong clear booze and q-tips for the system-part.

Thanks Juni! I've been cleaning it with pipe cleaners so far, but I was wondering how to give it a really good clean when I need to!

Just received my 1st pipe from Pipes and Cigars.

A Dr Grabow Omega Bent with the Stand by Me pipe tobacco sampler.

English Luxury, Optimum, Perfection, Virginia Long Cut, Captain Black

and Mac Baren 7 Seas Royal Blend.
Any suggestions on which to try first ?

If I can untie my fingers after typing your "handle", I have to say yes definitely try one first.
Seriously, depending on your experience either the English Luxury, or the 7 Seas Royal.

If you opt for the Royal let it dry a little before you stuff and puff. It is a little moist, but very good. It grows on you, a good "go to" smoke.

Sounds like a packing issue.
I don't know how much experience you have at our beloved hobby. I have been smoking a pipe for 35+ years, and I learned a gem or two from the following.

I envy you who get to try new tobaccos like 7 Seas . We never get anything over here. Maybe I should have my mother-in-law who lives in SC do some shopping for me.

I like the English Luxury that I bought from PipesAndCigars.com. I ordered their

Stand by Me sampler bag. I also ordered 3 tins of the MacBaren 7 Seas Royal Blend.

I like the M7SRB but I think I bought too much for my first purchase. I didnt realize that pipe tobacco is bulky to its weight !

I am still looking for a really aromatic blend that has a good room smell. Others have suggested Prince Albert and Half&Half. Check out tobaccoreviews.com , they really didnt like the current blend
