I’m Latakia’d out!

My search for a sweet Latakia blend lent itself to a little burn out on Latakia. I’ve got three mixes from a vendor, and got to Sextant by GL Pease. I did like it. Perhaps a little heavy.

Maybe Spring and Summer doesn’t lend itself to a heavy Latakia. I think I’m more of a Vapor man. I need a rest. I’ve got some Jacknife plug I’ll try.
Maybe a couple of lighter aeros. I need to reset the tastebuds.

I heard that BCA makes everything a little better!

It took me a little while to warm up to Latakia and I can’t see it ever being a major player for me. I will say I do enjoy a small dusting in an all day blend or a small bowl or two at the end of the day with a lat bomb, from time to time. Never thought I’d enjoy something like Gaslight but it’s wonderful in my little Savinelli 202.

Your comment brought my thinking immediately to Lancer's Slices for a sweet Lat/Va, and then to Deception Pass for a VaPer that is a bit more than. Have you tried these?

It's not so much "what you heard" but, what works for you and lets you enjoy a bowl. Less reading/listening and more exploring.

For me, the pipe is a simple, personal experience.

tastes change with everything. And some tastes you'll love and crave until the day you die. Latakia is the stinky cheese of tobacco in my opinion. Love the stuff think it's amazing but it can be too much too and it's not an everyday thing for me (well I smoke a lot EGR but honestly it's such a small amount that smoking a tin of presbyterian in multiple pipes gave me more latakia in my next few smokes, i.e. it's the same effect as a mild transitory ghost). I imagine if I binged on stilton for a few months I'd be sick of it.

Happens to a lot of folks. I was a diehard fan of latakia until about age 65 or so. Until that point VaPers didn't appeal to me at all. And then, voila, they became the only thing that I will smoke. I guess the latakia beat my taste buds into submission. I did buy two tins of the Dark Lord's Westchester the other day and it is truly a marvelous blend. Maybe my taste buds are rising from the dead.

Two decades ago or so I enjoyed Latakia blends quite a bit. Over time, the love affair faded and now only occasionally do I smoke anything with Latakia in it. When I do, it's usually Nightcap and as the name implies, usually just before bed.

I've found that Lane Limited HGL which is an aromatic similar to Lane's RLP-6 (aka..Captain Black) with some Latakia will help with Latakia overload.

Initially, I enjoyed Latakia and the campfire taste. Then the creamier Latakia blends.

I ended up having a stomach bug on the heels of a Latakia weekend and lost the taste for it. However, it hits the spot on rare occasions.

Some such as myself never get the taste for it back. The good news is that often means you can pick up milder flavors now.

Getting tired of Latakia happens. When I first started 25+ years ago I couldn’t stand Latakia. Then I really enjoyed it, but not exclusively. Over the last 5 years I only occasionally reach for a Lat blend.

Smoke whatever you like. What you like will change over time if you’re like most of us. Latakia seems to be more prone to causing “burnout” than other leaf.

The tin note MM965 was magical to me. Today I can’t stomach Latakia unless applied with a very light hand. Although, I do enjoy Barking Dog. Go figure?

Let’s hope I never tire of burley. No worries. I can’t see that happening.

I love latakia and I hope that never changes. I change up blends quite a bit, and am not getting lat anywhere near a continuous basis. So far it's working, but we can't predict the future, either.

I see your point, but there are a few pungent aros I would reserve for that category. First one that comes to mind is Cult Blood Red Moon, few others.

I’m trying Jacknife for the first time as I type and I have to say, so far I’m a big fan.

Maybe grab a tin of Edward G Robinson. It's a light aro with a touch of latakia.
