I’m Latakia’d out!

I have been a English and Balkan tobacco man since I started over 50 years ago and still love them, I never stick to one and swap from one to another all the time, my favourite one at the moment is a blend of two, Gawith Hoggarths's Red Mixture, used to be called Kendal Red, then Red Kendal, this is not a Latakia blend but a lovely tobacco on it's own but I have used it for blending for years, I made a over order and and ended up with 2 500g bags instead of 1 bag, silly me, old age kicking in, any way I then ordered 5 50g tins of Germains Full Latakia and mixed it 50/50 with the Red Mixture and wow, I love it, I will be ordering some more full Latakia (not for me on it's own) and make another batch up. I have blended my own tobacco for years, I can remember going in old tobacconist's here in the UK and have your own blend made up and once you found the right blend you could pre-order and it would be ready for your next visit, where I live in the UK there is not one tobacconist's left, it's all online for me nowadays.

Lots of great comments here. I too got sick of Latakia. Didn’t touch it for about a year. Eventually tried some Inns of Court which has just a pinch of lat and really enjoyed it. I do like Latakia just not in large amounts so I stick to blends that use it as a condiment.

I jumped on the Latakia train as soon as I first experienced it -- probably 20 years into my pipesmoking "career." Before that, I bought whatever was at the convenience store. Now, 25 years after that first experience, I still really like the stuff... I just like everything else, too. That's fine -- none of them are paying me to smoke them, so I can endorse or not as I choose.
