I just spent the evening explaining to my NINE year old daughter why someone would want to murder one of her best friends (10 years old), her friend’s little brother (7 - also a twin, the other one survived), and their mother. The suspect, who is in custody, also allegedly killed another one of their relatives some thirty minutes prior.

I’m talking about going to each other’s birthday parties, friendship bracelets, all the same classes at school, drawing pictures of each other, the works.

It has been an EXCEEDINGLY difficult evening here. Secret Santa came at the right time. Gonna auger in tomorrow and get a box together to take my mind off of this for a bit...

That is some tough Dad duty -- chaplain, counseling psychologist, philosopher, and Pa, all simultaneously. Prayers for the victims, the bereaved, and all the parents and kids and others in the community who have to digest this.

My heart goes out to you, man, I can’t imagine how hard that would be. I hug my daughter every chance I get, I also tell her that I love her as much as I can (an annoying amount of times each day). That really hit close to home for you all, I’m thankful that you and your family are still alive and breathing.
