I could be wrong but I really dont think EU blenders focus that much on aging...at least not as much. Id venture to say most people stock a little ahead but in most areas you have to be rich to buy pound upon pound of tobacco.

A question for those complaining about not being shipped in tins

You would be quite happy and not moan about the extra cost placed on each tin to cover the shipping ?

i see many times complaints about the rising price of tobacco in the US even though its as cheap as it is compared with elsewhere. There were even some about the HU price even though they are 100gr tins

Hmm, packaged, labeled, sealed in Mylar shipped from Germany… 🤔

So aside from discussions on packaging have any of you gents gotten some additional orders and smoked it?

Im curious how it stacks up against other US offerings. It wont change what I smoke (or what I can get) but Im still curious.

I'm curious to try some but I've currently got more tobacco than I'll be able to smoke in 20 years. That and everything seems like it's gotten significantly more expensive in the pipe/tobacco space since the last time I was actively buying both pipes and tobacco.

I just opened night owl since my tin wasn't sealed properly. It really smells incredible! Hopefully it tastes just as good.

These Mylar bags are thin, shit, and develop pin holes. Don't be complacent because it's Mylar. All of my Eso bags are bagged in heavy duty 7 mil food grade Mylar, and not a one of them hasn't given off it's pronounced scent when on of those outer bags is opened. Eso bags are not for long term storage, nor were they intended to be.

Hi @sablebrush52

I was just using Germain as an example, assuming they would be more widely recognized, then say KBV. I didn’t mean to make it look like I was suggesting the same type of mylar Germain uses.

All the blends in mylar bags I’ve received in the past from Ken are extremely beefy, and I assumed these would be good for long term.

Kopp could user thicker more durable materials that are still light weight to package and ship from Germany.

@Roach1 If you are asking if Esoterica is available for sale in Germany, the last I understood it, is that Germain’s blends weren’t sold in Europe.

P.S. @sablebrush52 glad you brought up Germain’s mylar bags not good for long term storage. I never gave it much thought, I’ll vacuum seal mine... Thank

Have tried Zulu, Night Owl, and Directors cut so far. Also opened The Untouchables and it scares me, lol, cedar and rose?

I may be crazy, but both Zulu and Directors Cut seem to have a kind of mint playing in the background, not at all bad, just different. Both were better on the wet side then dried out. Both had a very nice mouth feel, almost creamy. Zulu was definitely not as good dry, at least to me. I get the same with GL pease Horizons, smoke that straight from the tin as well. The latakia in Zulu was rough and all I could taste when I dried it completely. Seems the casing or topping is what smooths it out and is lost when dry. That or I just used a bad pipe. Will have to try it a few more times. Still both are excellent blends.

Night Owl is very nice. I do not drink while smoking, but I can see this pairing with a good scotch.

I have driven BMW’s for over 20 years. Having never once owned one built in the US…
@PipeIT Some Porsche is made outside Germany. My 911 is made in Germany though.

I have owned BMWs made in Germany and in USA. Did not find any quality difference between them.

More interestingly, I have also owned a Mini made in UK which had the same BMW quality.

They will help, but not for years of storage. The metallized Mylar bags are not permeable.

I didn’t expect vacuum sealed bags to last many years, but I was hoping I’d only need to re seal them once a year, or two.

I see I can get metallized mylar bags to use with my FoodSaver. I just need to now figure out who makes good ones to use.

How long of storage do you think can be used with the metallized mylar bags, if I take the Esoterica bags and then seal them in metallized Mylar?

Here's where I get my Mylar bags: https://www.topmylar.com/

I buy the food grade 7 mill gusseted bags and have heat sealed all of my Esoterica bags in them. Bags of this type will last for a couple of decades.
