I want to carry a pipe and some baccy with me. How do I properly carry baccy around without it turning crispy?

"How to take tobacco with you"
At first, I thought this was some sort of metaphysical question.

Put a small ziploc bag inside of a tin and stuff it in your pocket... If you've only got a couple bowls in there and don't plan on keeping it there for longer than a day its perfectly fine.

I'm with Mike - the classic lambskin zipper pouch with the (latex, I'm pretty sure) lining. I actually used to use one to carry change in when I was collecting for my paper route when I was a kid - which tells me that at least one of my grandparents either smoked a pipe at one time, or chewed...

I too have one of the combo tobacco and pipe pouches, works great and I take it everywhere I go just in case.

I will usually just use a leather roll-up pouch.

As to not getting "crispy"...

I don't carry more than 4-6 bowls...

Besides... most tobaccos could use a bit drying. IMHO

The key is to remember that if you're carrying tobacco it should only be for what you intend to smoke that day. As mentioned above there are a number of different companies that make pipe pouches usually latex lined for the tobacco with a compartment for a pipe or two and some tools.

Hummm. I don't think of it in this way. I have a nice leather pouch (zippered) and pipe holder and lighter/tamper holder. But I've never thought of it as just for the day. I keep it in my car and in my computer bag until its done. I've also recently been carry a tin of CAO Moontrance in my car too. :)

I use a Day-Zipper-Pouch. Maybe four or five bowls max. Then, at night, I put it back into the air-tight container. I never leave tobacco in a pouch over-night. For trips over-night, (on the road) I carry the tobacco blends in the small mason-jar type jars often picture on this Forum. In that case, I carry a briefcase of pipes and tobacco jars (the small ones). Lots of pipes, usually ten or more and usually all three of my blends and sometimes more if on a trip of three days.

Anyone use a Baccyflap? I've been meaning to see if someone can make one out of aluminum for me.

Aluminum isn't necessary I just think it would be cool to have one made out of aluminum. It would probably be pretty expensive to have one made. I'm trying to turn one out of walnut on my lathe but I haven't got the threads down yet.

A ziplock bag, just have to rememeber the one in the left pocket is tobacco and the right...Nah I just use a night cap or Escudo tin. Mostly when I'm "out" it's non-smoking, or at the cigar club, which of course means cigars. I do plan on getting a case if I'm able to get to the Chicago show, don't want to look like a total noob, but since I really only smoke my pipe in the cave and the pool, no coat required.

I use a great leather bag I got with an order of Alsbo Gold from P and C. It has a pocket for tobacco and an under pocket for my pipe. Before I got it I used a ziplock bag. For short trips I just pack my pipe and cap it. I think the bag sells for about $7 by itself. It's small and fits in my pocket easily.

I keep a few empty tins lying around. If I'm going out and think I'll need more than the packed bowl I always take with me then I'll pinch a little tobacco in the tin and take it. Unless you're planning on being gone for 3 days it will be fine in the tin. NEVER EVER put tobacco and a wet paper towel in a plastic bag together, it will ruin your smoke. The stuff isn't going to dry out instantly.

I've just started using a Columbus leather pipe wallet like the ones hfearly linked. They have them for around $15 at smokingpipes. Very worthwhile, I really like mine. For me, it's much more convenient than plastic bags, not to mention carrying a tin around.

I've got a nice pouch I got from my secret Santa. (Thanks again, Santa!) Lacking that, a ziplock bag works just fine.

Tins, ziplocks, zipper pouches made for the purpose -- all good. My wife gave me a leather case for churchwardens

that also protects a ziplock or two of tobacco. An inexpensive dop kit (nylon shaving kit) from the drugstore or

Walmart also works, for pipes, tobacco, matches, pipe cleaners, and a pipe tool or two (pipe nail, Czech tool, or

whatever you like). Pipe lighter if you use one. Most of these shaving kits have a zipper pocket or two on the outside

to organize small items like matches and pipe tool. I tend to take my second eschelon pipes traveling, although

frankly there are no eschelons. Some of the old beaters are my favorites too. FYI, though I would like to, I do not

store a kit in the car since the heat, especially, and the humidity would get to the tobacco and maybe the pipes.

So I do go to the trouble to pack up and take along on any particular excursion. Finding a place to smoke once

you are in travel status or just out around town, that is more difficult. But taking the pipes and baccy along, easy.
