EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9)

Hi,

Just wondering how much tobacco people usually buy when ordering for me it's in excess of 200 USD usually tins and that will last me for quite some time but I'm about to pull the trigger on a couple of much larger orders circa 1000 USD and start to cellar some.

Maybe it's lockdown or future tobacco regulations has me feeling this way

thanks

Working to maximize my purchasing power, I usually buy enough to trigger free shipping and combine it with sales and special offers.

I've slowed way down now, as my cellar feels "good enough". Average order size was around $100. I don't think I ever hit $200 on a single order, though I've occasionally had that much tobacco inbound from several sources.

It’s anywhere between a couple of tins or bags to the most was 45 tins and pouches to stock up my cellar. Most of that large order was Veermaster Salty Dogs and Tordenskjold Virginia Slices to cellar.

I don’t put anything on credit that I can’t afford to pay off before the end of the month. Best advice I can give on orders. Buy what you can afford and don’t worry about keeping up with the Joneses!

I totally agree but its a seperate topic credit card debt is a scourge and I've been there and gladly on the other side

it really depends but certainly 6 months, I guess part of the issue is new FDA regulations and hence I'm thinking I should just stock up a little more
Understand. I guess the trick is to figure out how much you can budget to cellar without needing to dip into it every 6months. Unsure of FDA implications (don’t live in USA), but I would assume priority goes to blends you think would be impacted by that.

I buy at least the minimum to get free shipping. It makes no sense to do otherwise. I've accumulated around 450 pounds in the past three years.

The first thing you need to do is determine how much per year you smoke. Take a shot at estimating your remaining life span. Multiply that times your yearly consumption. Now you know what you need to buy. It's simply a matter of finding the time and budget to make the purchases.

Most of my "normal" orders are $100 to $150, that is for tins and bulk that are readily available. When I have the chance to buy tobaccos that are harder to get I have purchased much more than that.

How long does the 200 odd last you?

That's a GREAT question. I never checked, in fact I started a spreadsheet but haven't kept it up to date.

Looking at my tin graveyard I see 20 tins smoked since December last year, which doesn't take into account the 10-15 odd pouches I also smoked this year. If we say a very rough ballpark of 13 euros per 50g that's up to 455 euros for a year's smoking pleasure.

Frankly considering the pleasure pipe smoking gives me I should be getting even larger orders, but I'm always wary of getting a package held up, or shipping issues with covid.
