[/quote]Hey Jerry, I tried to look up "8th street smoke shop" and couldn't find it on the internet. Is that the name of the shop?

thanks

Allan
If I remember correctly, it was a few doors down from Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland recording studio.

This could be it:

Also, Carole Burns at Pipeworks and Wilke blended it (I think).

I've done long stretches with one or two favorites. In the past two or three years, I've tried much more variety.

I'd guess I've tried about 40, but I suspect there are a lot I've forgotten, so if it is 60 or more, it wouldn't surprise

me. 'Never done the big bags of generic 'baccy, nor some of the real high end stuff. It's nice to know about the

infinite number of blends mentioned in Forums. Frog Morton is still in my future.

Counting OTC, around 20 I started around last November. But I have to agree with Rothnh. Hopefully many more for us all! Cheers!

I turned 71 in February, just to give you some perspective on how long ago I started pipe smoking.
I started smoking a pipe in 1958 and within year or so graduated from drugstore blends to English blends. My two favorites were Balkan Sobranie and Patterson's Mixture from The Owl Shop, followed by some of the Dunhill and, ocasionaly, the Rattray blends. I never had more than two or three blends on hand back then. I can remember 32 blends that I smoked back then.
I stopped smoking somewhere in the late 1980's and started up again last spring. I counted 25 blends currently on hand, mostly English Blends and Virginias and Vapers and a few Burley blends.
In total I can account for having smoked 57 blends, though there may have been more.
The question has been raised on how many blends there are. I wonder if anyone can really get an accurate count. However, while researching a question I had about Dunhill, I did come across some interesting information about Dunhill's blends. In testimony by Dunhill's lawyers in the lawsuit Alfred Dunhill vs Kasser, they stated that a large part of Dunhill's business was custom blends for customers and as of 1962, they had developed 35,000 blends. Most of these aren't available to the general public, but I never would have guessed at that high a number.

I'm sitting on about 20 opened tins(again), so I'd guess that I've tried about 30-35 different tins since picking up the hobby last March. Also picked up six different bottles of Scotch, Whiskey and Bourbon since starting this hobby. And no, I haven't finished all six bottles as of yet.

"Wow this posting is quite sobering for a new pipe smoker like me.

The number of tobacco blends & flavours is absolutely mind boggling.

Its amazing how many tobaccos some of you guys have tried."
It boggles my mind too and it's been more than 40 years since I began smoking a pipe ... actually, it's more than 40 counting quality pipes and quality tobacco ... if I count the drugstore years, it's more than I want to admit being old enough to say ...
Honestly, I have NO idea in the world how many different tobaccos I've tried, but I'm sure that whatever the number is, it doesn't begin to compare to some of the totals mentioned in this thread ... that's due in large measure I'm sure to the fact that after I landed on Three Nuns back in '72 or '73, that was the sole thing that went into my pipes until it went away, at which time my pipe smoking went on a decade or so hiatus and I smoked only cigars ...
Since picking up the pipes again, I'm thinking my total is somewhere in the three to four dozen range with about 15 or 16 currently on hand ...

There are some substantial blend counts listed on here for sure! My own does not come close to some of these, ie; Roth and Capt. Bob.

As of now, according to my sheet, I've tried 60 and I currently have 3 in the cellar that I have yet to try. I also have 3 new ones in the mail. I currently have a little over 40 blends in rotation right now, all in jars of course! I know that may sound a little excessive, but what can I say, I like variety!

Wow!
Great zombie thread!
A good topic, actually makes me think a little, this aspect hadn't really crossed my mind...
...so I took pause and tabulated what the numbers been so far,

been with pipe about 2 years now
75 blends
...with about 20 unopened untried tins in the cellar.
