don't keep track. I know what I have smoked, when its brought up. I can tell you whether I liked it or not. Never thought to keep track of the numerical value.
I'm right here. If I went through my journals and counted, that would cover most (if not all) of what I smoked since I returned to the pipe in 2003, from my cigar sojourn. That's more effort than I wish to make, however. But how many did I smoke before that? I have no idea, because I never kept track.
I don't document what's in my cellar, either. That is work, and I don't work anymore LOL. I do keep track of things in my head well enough though.

The only thing I have documented in the cellar is a list of the tins of BBF, by the year acquired, and a similar list of Red Ribbon. Otherwise, I'm with you Roth.
Do you have a top 3?

The idea of narrowing it down that much is, for me, laughable. I guess if you meant by top 3, 3 that I have open at all times, well, yeah, I guess. But I wouldn't want to smoke only those 3.

I've tried too many! I've switched from cigars to pipes months ago. Not years ago. I have slowed down. I have two Aros I smoke. I have two English I smoke. I have one OTC I smoke. Starting with my next order I am concentrating on flakes. I just had to make it less complicated. I will eventually go back to more varied experimentation.
Edit: I can't decide if Bald Headed Teacher is a Burley or an English. Both? See what I mean about confused?

It would be really tough to narrow my favorites down to three. (Three in each category would be easier!) My all-time top three favorites might be Pease's Bohemian Scandal, Penzance, and Rattray's Jocks Mixture. But when I think about the blends that have blown me away from the very first bowl, I'd also have to add Esoterica's And So to Bed and Stonehaven; McClelland's Yenidje Highlander, Anniversary, Dark Star, and Frog Morton Across the Pond; Dunhill's Durbar; Pease's Caravan and Westminster; and Dan Tobacco's London Blend #1000. But I also love Germain's Special Latakia Flake, Robert Lewis's 123 and Tree Mixtures, Full Virginia Flake, Marlin Flake, Hal o' the Wynd, Bob's Chocolate Flake. . .

In the relatively short time I've been smoking, I've tried close to 70-ish blends. Granted most were from the Box Pass, but I have in my "open" cellar, some 50-60 blends which I've not only tried, but enjoy. I'm such a blend whore, it isn't funny. I'm always trying something new even tough I have plenty of favorites. Just the other day, I tried Carter Hall and yesterday, I tried Dunhill Flake. There's always something that catches my fancy when I'm at the tobacconists.

I've reviewed 138 on tobaccoreviews.com, I would guess there has been another 50 or 60 I've forgot to review or tried before I found tobaccoreviews.

A total 697 different blends since 1965, I have kept a record because of my keen interest in blending tobacco's. Although, since I created three C&D Blends in the Captain Bob's Series since 2005, I have smoked only a few dozen and those were at the request of Craig Tarler in order to write reviews of them. All were good. However, I am no longer searching for the favorites. I created my own favorites with the help of (the late) Craig Tarler, and am quite satisfied at the age of 21 (that is age 21 for the third time!).

Below: Craig and I in the tent at Chicago sampling C&D Blends.

rothnh,
Yes, I agree with you. We are so very fortunate to still have more than a reasonable man could sample in a lifetime. There are many, wonderful blends. When you become satisfied, you will know it and until then, keep sampling because there are so many great blends out there waiting for you. I site the example of Craig Tarler, himself. With more than 350 blends to his credit, all he smoked from 1999 until his death was Two Friends - Heritage, a blend he created with G.L. Pease in the "Two Friends Series". I have four blends on my pipe cabinet in air-tight containers. Three are my own C&D Blends and the forth is Two Friends - Heritage. In fact, I am smoking it now and loving it. It is similar to my Captain Bob's Pot O' Gold Mixture that Craig and I put together as the third Blend in the Captain Bob's Series. It is different in that we added a Maple Flavored Red Cavendish and some distinctive non-aromatic "deep-south" Burley tobaccos. I recommend both Heritage and Pot O' Gold Mixture if you are in to Virginia Medleys that are virtually non-aromatic (but not totally non-aromatic).

Wow this posting is quite sobering for a new pipe smoker like me. The number of tobacco blends & flavours is absolutely mind boggling. Its amazing how many tobaccos some of you guys have tried. I really enjoy reading all this stuff & learning more everyday. I have only tried 15 blends so far , but am really enjoying the journey.

I know what you mean brass. I've only managed to try about 10 so far and I look at all the well loved "staples" and wonder where a poor noob is supposed to start. Guess I'll just take it one puff at a time.

Yes thats all we can do , one puff at a time lol. I sure am thankfull for the tobacco review site. I've spent many hours there reading all kinds of reviews about the vast amount of tobacco blends available. Its a great site , its very helpful for new pipers like us.

I picked up the pipe for the first time back in October 2012 so my pipe smoking experience is rather limited as well as tobaccos tried to date.
I just counted what I have which consists of bulk and tinned tobaccos and that number is 22. I've also tried 8 'Drug Store' blends as well. Total is now at 30.
My favorite in different categories of my present stock is:
Aromatic - Tie between W.O. Larsen Signature & Stokkebye Golden Dansk

English - Tie between McClelland Frog Morton on The Bayou & McClelland 3 Oaks (3 Oaks fast becoming my everyday smoke)
Favorite Drug store tobacco - Tie between Carter Hall & Captain Black 'White' Regular
I have Stokkebye Navy Flake and Bullseye Flake & Erinmore Flake. I'm trying to like these but have not acquired the taste for this type of blends.
Another favorite of mine is my 'MOB' which is 40% Carter Hall, 60% Lane Limited's 1Q
(If anyone can recommend other blends which contain Syrian Latakia with Orientals I might enjoy trying please do! I could live a happy life smoking 3 Oaks and nothing else.)

An estimated few hundred blends, when I first started to find my

way. Now I have about two dozen or so of my favorites that always

manage to stay in my rotation ;-)

I'd guess somewhere between 300 and 500. There's quite a bit of duplication there though. I've tried a lot of house blends over the years and many of those are bulk blends from the major distributors that a B&M sells under their own name.

Around 200. I started in 1969 (mostly smoked Balkan Sobranie, Dunhill blends, and a blend I bought at the 8th Street Smoke Shop in Greenwich Village NYC called "8th Street.")

Hey Jerry
I tried to look up "8th street smoke shop" and couldn't find it on the internet. Is that the name of the shop?
thanks

Allan
