1 of the reasons I'm a Peterson fan is their liberal use of silver ferrules. Not fond of gold, however. Even 3 of my 5 Nording pipes have silver ferrules.

Honestly I prefer the look of silver over gold when it comes to accenting pipes. I have a few of each, but the silver tends to stand out where the gold kind of looks washed out against the briar.

I've got a couple of silver ferrule and silver spigot Petersons. Also two with silver rim and wind caps. No gold, several nickel army mounts and one copper army mount. That said, most of my pipes don't have metal bands.

I like it on briars, but not as much on meers.
The contrast between the warm organic character of wood and the metallic precision of sterling is appealing. I also love the hallmarks.

That Barling's of Jesse's is a show-stopper!
I want to say that I'm not a huge fan, but in looking at my collection I have several.
Love this slim silver ring on a Ferndown.

If I remember correctly, Les Wood, the carver of Ferndown pipes, started with Dunhill (or was promoted into it) doing metal work, so I think most Ferndown pipes have silver bands. I think he has scaled back on his volume of pipes, but I think he is still at it, and the estates are still around.
