Torch lighters are just waiting to scortch the edges of your bowl. I tried one for a short while. I was very careful but it won in the end and nailed one or two. It was slight and I removed the damage but the torches were religated to the drawer.

Im still loving my Duponts. The feel and action is just about unsurpasessed and I have the tools I need to repair them.

I sold my Old Boy. Great lighter but I liked the Duponts more. In France I can get a used Dupont for the price of an Old Boy so it was no contest.

I've never used a torch for my pipe smoking pleasure.

I recently scored an Eldred Cigar lighter but for the life of me can't get it to work. Does anyone know anyone who repairs them?
Is it a torch? Will it light off another lighter? I assume you’ve tried releasing some gas and/or testing it on high and low. Blow out the burner? I had a lighter that quit working at home at 600 feet but after a trip west through the mountains worked fine again at 3000 feet.

It's a jump spark lighter. I think the coil pack is bad. It does light if I put another lighter to it.

I a straight cutter, a v cutter, and a ring gauge, so three cutters. As for lighters I just use gas stations torch lighters, I have two at a time so when one burns out I can start the other one. I used to have CAD really bad for a couple years but I never cared about tools much

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, long-term torch lighter. I purchased what I thought were 2-3 decent mid-range ones, and they all lasted around a year... without a lot of use. I get very good longevity out of my pipe lighters, from the cheap ones to the mid-range and I use them much more than the torches. I'm almost at the point of just giving up on torches.

Several cheap cutters and one not-so-cheap one. I have a punch cutter that was a gift from my father-in-law, may he rest in cigar heaven. I have a torch lighter that was a gift, but I usually use matches or a Bic. My son gave me a Zippo but that broke rather quickly. I also have one of those long-handled lighters you use to light barbecues and such; sometimes I use that just to amuse myself.

I bought my first torch in 1996 and I can confidently say ALL butane torches will eventually fail. They will begin to leak or most likely the ignition system will crap out. It doesn't matter what you paid or what brand it is. I've owned a lot of the mid-range brands too; Xikar, Blazer, Colibri, Firebird, Prometheus, Vector KGM, Palio, Zippo, etc.

I recommend buying the lighter with the best warranty. In my experience that's Xikar.

They stand by their lifetime warranty from manufacturing defects for all their products. They replaced my quad-flame torch after it stopped igniting about four years of use. I paid for shipping to them and they shipped back a brand new one at no cost. If they don't make your lighter they will return a new comparatively priced model. That's pretty solid.

The Blazer CG-001lighters I have have never failed me. The Xikar lighters that failed me I sent in for credit and I purchased cutters on their site. The only issue I had with my Blazer lighter was my fault. I dropped it from a second story and the little piece that delivers the spark to ignite it broke off. It still works but occasionally needs an extra click or two. This model hold a ton of butane too.
