I smoke pipes on the smaller size, pack 3/4 bowls, and smoke primarily rubbed out flake or ribbon cut tobacco. A smoke lasts around 45 minutes to an hour, sometimes longer and sometimes shorter, depending on the tobacco, my cadence, and how many breaks I take. I don't much enjoy smoking for more than an hour at a time.

I personally fail to see the attraction in watching a slow smoke contest. Watching paint dry comes to mind.
Harris makes a good point in stating that cube cut plug (meaning proper plug) smokes very slowly. Though I've never actually timed it I can say with some certainty I've filled a medium sized bent bulldog with cube cut St. James Plug and smoked it for one and a half hours plus albeit with relights.

Jay.

A Peterson 312 (P-lip) with SG Balkan Flake will last well over 2.5 hours when breath smoking. There will be the odd re-light but the pipe isn't put down or left unsmoked for any longer than a minute or so. This is the length of time it takes me to drive from my home near Nottingham to North London. I do this trip regularly but it is only that combination of pipe and tobacco which last that distance.
In the Nottingham Pipe Club slow smoking competition, I smoked a MM corn cob with ribbon cut tobacco (can't remember what but it was bloody awful) for 44 minutes and 37 seconds. I came 5th. The guy who won was over 55 minutes (can't remember his exact time).

Wondered what sort of football clubs you have up there in Notts... Wow! Very impressive.
In their early years Forest were a multi-sports club. As well as their roots in bandy and shinty, Forest's baseball club were British champions in 1899.[5] Forest's charitable approach helped clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to form. In 1886, Forest donated a set of football kits to help Arsenal establish themselves – the North London team still wear red. Forest also donated shirts to Everton and helped secure a site to play on for Brighton.
All good except starting Arsenal.... :)
Also, I see Forest won the FA Cup in 1898 and 1959. Hope my Tottenham Hotspurs can get there this year!
