I mountain bike 3-5 times a week and hike pretty frequently as well. Other outdoor activities include downhill skiing (when in season, little known fact, the ski area in the US that is the furthest south is our local hill in Tucson, AZ) and golf. About a year ago I was about 30-40 pds overweight, and had almost equalled my heaviest weight. I could still drop friends on hikes, so I was in decent shape, but I really noticed my hips and knees hurting afterwards, especially on hikes with a lot of climbing/descending. Since then I got more regimented about my workouts, and shifted my approach to food (now I ask myself if I REALLY want something I don't need). I've lost a little over 30 pds since then. I was hoping to make it 40 pds before my 40th b-day, but I kind of plateaued at 32 pds lost and my b-day was in July. At some point I'll get a little more intense with the working out and lost the last 10 pds, but right now it just feels great to not be carrying around so much extra weight, not to mention that one of the most satisfyingly frustrating things in life is no longer being able to fit in half of my clothes.
