Good afternoon all I'm starting to really like Escudo, but cant seem to get it to burn right, I think the problem is how I am packing it so how do you guys do it?

The way I pack these large coins is to take two coins stacked together, fold them in half, then fold them again from top to bottom. Twist them around slightly to kind of fray the tobacco out, stuff in the pipe, light and enjoy.

Right now, my first tin has gotten a little dried out, so it tends to rub itself out when I grab a flake or two... but Escudo was my first attempt at fold-and-stuff, which worked relatively well for me.
I still kind of prefer rubbing out flakes, myself. Since I'm still relatively new at this myself, it's easier to keep everything more or less the same so that I can focus on packing without worrying about whether I've folded the flake properly or gotten the cubes settled just so...
Good luck - keep working at it, and you'll find what works eventually.

I either do as coalsmoke does but make a loose "cannonball" of one coin that goes in first, then the two-topper. IMHO Escudo is a wee bit hard to get going real well. But once it's burning it is heavenly. :puffy:

I fold and stuff for my larger (regular) sized pipes, but for my smaller .6" diameter stackers, I prefer to fully rub it out and let it dry. There is a different flavor profile to rubbing it out, not as sweet, and you have to be more careful not to let it get too hot. But, I get more of the tangy flavors that way. I don't think there is a wrong way, ...unless of course you try to stuff it down the stem, but to each his own.

I take one coin, fold one side forward, the other backward. Then the bottom either forward or backward and then stuff it in. Get a little broken up from the bottom of the jar and sprinkle on top, bliss :D

I take three coins from the tin, and place them on top of some raw salmon. This allows for some moisture and flavor to to be absorbed slowly. Then after about an hour I remove the flakes, and let them dry for about 1/2 hour in the sun. At this point I take my pipe, rob the coins out on a piece of white paper, pack the pipe with the salmon and smoke it.
Anything is better than escudo.

I overlap two coin by a half-inch or less then roll them up. I then stuff the roll as best I can into the pipe. I am usually pretty forceful about this since you won't get enough tobacco in the chamber. It's almost impossible to over pack Escudo this way. If you think too much is sticking out of the pipe just tear it off.

I simply place two coins in the palm of my hand and use the other hand to rub out and stuff into the bowl. Most of my pipes take two and half coins. Pack loosely and take your thumb and press lightly until the tobacco is just a little springy.
I bake most of my tobacco tins at 250 to 300 degrees for four hours. This method quickly ages most tobaccos a little and has proven to be useful to mellow out the tobacco and take the "edge" off most blends.
