Back in the days there were several master tin openers here in The Faroe Islands. Every village had at least one.
These days the traditional craft are all but gone and I think the last of the old masters passed away in the 90'ies.
Now a group of young enthusiasts have been doing interviews with the relatives and looking through old pictures and footage of these craftsmen of yore. As one of the very few pipe smokers in the country, I have been giving some advise. Mostly on stuff like the smokers' tolerance to aluminum splinters and whether the use of angle grinders has an impact on the flavour of virginia blends.
We have not yet been able to fully understand these ancient techniques, but we are getting there. It seems watermills and some kind of horse drawn machine, that turned counterwise to the watermill were the main components.

Pretty advanced. I understand Peck's tutorials include sharpened rocks and heavy logs. And a lot of sweat lodge time with chest pounding. Maybe a bit of yelling, too.....
We are considering sending someone to Canada to take the course. We will have to man a boat and row to Newfoundland via Iceland and Greenland and then travel over land to wherever Peck is located. This endeavour must be planned carefully.
I put the coin in, but the lid still won't twist off! Should I put one in each slot, like coin-op laundry?
