I signed up and paid for Peck's course with great anticipation. What I found most enlightening was when I learned what it was to be reamed. :worship:

Actually a czech tool works great for this, take the spoon part, stick it in the notch and either slide it or twist and you'll hear the vacuum seal give.

well, this is where us rednecks with only three teeth have it all over you yanks...we just pick up the tin with one hand, slide a tooth under the rim and bite.
alas, however, time is never on our side for these kinds of things and, eventually, you have to teach the redbones how to do it.

I have found great success with round tins by chewing a hole in the side. I can then just turn the tin over the pipe and shake out the desired amount. My dental costs have gone up but small price to pay for a good tobacco experience.

I thought someone was pulling my leg when I saw this. Reminds me of the time the Main Computer in our control room kicked off during a lightening strike as we had not finished doing the surge protection. Dozens of Engineers and IT people squirming around looking like sheep caught in a highway, I entered the Computer room and man was it a clusterf#*k. I went to the main breaker and shouted back off, threw the Main Breaker that was off and wonders of wonders Computer started humming. Head Engineer says to me , What did you do? I replied , I threw the O. N switch on.

I regret that the course is sold out for Calendar year 2015. Now taking registrations for 2016.
The Old Cajun has agreed to be a special lecturer to teach the segment on reaming.

This is my current method. I was denied entry to peckinpahhombre's tin opening school after being spotted smoking hookah loosing my scholarship henceforth. Biggest mistake of my life....

now to make this an even longer thread, I am thinking I shouldn't open any more tins untilI finish the one I have opened? Or should I not worry about the longevity of a tin(I still have 4 unopened sitting here) I don't want to ruin any of them........any thoughts?

Open them and transfer the contents to mason / jelly jars.
If it really needs dry time, pop the tin and leave the tobacco in the tin opening every couple of days.

Once the moisture level is where you want it ... jar it up.
For example ... when I pop a tin of Dark Star I leave it in the tin for MONTHS, opening the lid

a couple times a week to check. However, when I pop a tin from H&H it goes right to the jar as the moisture level is already good.

Once your on a roll, open them all up.
As long as you close them back up, screw them on real tight, they should last for years.

Hey Peck! Can fellow Canadians get a discount on tuition fees? I'm particularly interested in the Tamper course but I've got to save up for a new extension cord first before I have enough to join up.

I am but a poor cobbler and couldn't afford the prestigious Peckinpahhombre Tin Opening School, and I didn't qualify for a scholarship, and anyways, the Canadian border guards would deny my entry into their country, so I had to turn to suspect sources, usually dangerous and pirated information, which led to much pain and personal loss - now I know better and I'm saving my maple leaves for Peck's Proper Instruction - heed my advice and do the same, save yourself from the suffering I barely survived.
I did however pick up one great tip.

For quite a while I had been eager to learn a technique to enhance my experience of the peanut can ring-pull tins, and I finally found some sage wisdom that did the trick.
It's the "dirty curb method" and it adds much needed romanticism to the peanut can opening act.
Hint: the dirtier the curb, the more romantic it is.
(remember to rub vigorously)
(also: peeling the label makes you feel good too)
Yummy!
