After reading all the comments as of right now, it looks like the only solution to TAD/PAD is, as terrygoldman said, to give in! It's as if there is no cure to help control it, other than peck, but smokeybear made it sound like peck had to suffer the worst cases of TAD/PAD to get over it. I guess it has to get worse before it gets better.
Thank you all for the support!
Haha jk....or am i?
acutabovebriar: That seems like a really good option, but it might come with consequences. My gf loves to shop. If she has more money, that means more purses/shoes/clothes/bobby pins will clutter the house! haha
murf: I don't normally spend my time at on online shops, heck I don't even spend that much time on the computer since I'm usually out skateboarding or out with friends/family. The only time I'm ever really on the computer is at work and since it was kinda slow, I thought I'd take a peek at some online pipe shops. Bad move! haha. Grats on senior member btw!

So my job had this wellness event where we had a screening and took an online assessment of our lifestyle. As an incentive, they ponied up some cash to add to your medical reimbursement account. Thing is, I don't have insurance through them so the money was deposited onto a prepaid card. Guess what I spent those wellness funds on...
Yep, more tobacco. Three more pounds of ODF on the way.
As for a cure for PAD/TAD there is not one. I have slowed down quite a bit because I feel I have enough to last me, but there are still favorites that I definitely need more of.
So, give in. Especially if money is not an issue. Only you can answer when enough is enough.

Ok....for the newbees....what the heck is TAD/PAD? My guess is Tobacco Attention Deficit and Pipe Attention Deficit....disorders which keep a person focused only on tobacco and pipes. Am I close? :oops:

How do you guys control yourselves?
I try as hard as I can but the siren song of a cool pipe and money in my pocket will always win. See my recent thread about my Alden pipes and you'll know what I mean.

How do you guys control yourselves? Or should I just plain and simple give in to it?
Quite simple for me.... I'm BROKE!! Working a crap part time job while looking for work I have no money after bills. :crying:

I would be in trouble though if I was back doing something better. That's for damn sure, I'm just lucky. Hoist as was just here because that filled my cellar up real nice :puffy:

TAD= Tobacco Acquisition Disorder

PAD= Pipe Acquisition Disorder

blueeyedogre has the right idea but you don't need to move that far, just Alberta. Tins start at around $40 at B&Ms and bulk is not much cheaper. But you definitely need to cut up your credit cards because 4noggins will still hook you up.

Looking at all the previous responses and having to deal with this problem myself, I'm starting a charity called "Search For The Cure". I think with enough support we can find cure.

I am a model of restraint and reservation
If you believe that one, I'm a 28 year old stud . . . . that 2 little girls call "Grampa".
As long as the bills are paid, food is in the refrigerator, and you can look yourself in the eye, what's the problem?

I just went out today and bought a new car. That pretty much sucked the life right out of my TAD/PAD fund for the time being, but in the grand scheme of things, getting back and forth to work is more important at the moment. My cellar is pretty well stocked at the moment, and my pipes are all pretty utilitarian. I'll continue to ask for pipes for birthdays and Christmas and round out the cellar when I can.

Control?
But seriously, I should pay attention to the advice. I try to keep a set number of pipes, let's say 30. If I want another pipe I get rid of one. I think it would be an ok idea if I stuck to that plan. Atleast that way the PAD would controlled somewhat. But since I didn't do any of this I'm a pipe hoarder. I should stop...
aquilas - sorry to be a bad influence on your PAD but the Savinelli 320 is a nice pipe. Everyone that has one seems loves to love it, including me. There is also so many different models of the Sav 320, you can't go wrong.

Good morning fellow pipe smokers (or good evening, depending on your part of the world)
So reading all the recent comments reinforces the fact there can really be no cure for TAD/PAD, other than being broke or taking drastic measures, such as giving your money to your significant other. I still haven't pressed the 'place order' button and with the day looking as slow as yesterday, I'm looking at the 'place order' button again. The battle continues...

I like this idea. The only problem I can see with this is the money going into the charity might fall into the wrong hands and it might just supplement that person's TAD/PAD..............unless that was your plan all along!

As my friend Pete03 says, there is no cure. The only thing that curtails me is lack of money. I've bought three pipes for about $300 in the past week--one directly from Denmark-- using a credit card. I think you just have to accept it until someone forcibly stops you, puts you in a rehab clinic, and straps you to a bed for an indefinite period of time.You know you're in trouble when you start selling your blood to keep up with your habit.

Fortunately, I haven't been hit with TAD because I like stability and spent months determining what basic tobaccos I get. So far, my tobacco regiment is composed of some flakes, Carter Hall and Lane 1Q as my "goto" blends, then Molto Dolce, Maple Street, and Early Morning Breakfast, er, Pipe.

You don't control it. It controls you!!!
Oldmankk: that's the damn honest truth.
So, I gave in. It's been at least a 2 week battle...yesterday was just the first day I put things into the cart and stared at the 'place order' button. After reading all your supportive and uplifting comments, I gave in.
