Not that difference from the going rate of Penzance, is it?

Not retail. The pricing or some will call gouging of esoterica is all on a secondary market

If that was his price structure may be the reason or I would argue is the reason he went down

That is an old page. The shop in Oregon City closed in Oct. Gone. He lives in Portland Area and does not have to commute any longer.

There have been health issues. The blending was to be done by his daughter Eva under Steven's supervision. They seem to have trouble running the business. Thus the problems contacting them. Vorvick has had that trouble. I wish I lived close bye and could help them. I know the prices have become over done( more like California prices per OZ) but they are my favorite tobaccos. Try the web site I listed. https://squareup.com/store/house-of-calabash-3

Loneredtree, Which blends do you like the best? I don't know that I've ever encountered any o them.
The $404/lb for that first pipe of the day blend seems a little steep. But some of the others sound interesting....

$404/Lb is $25/oz. Pricey unless you do not smoke much. ( plus a shipping fee)
My favorites are 7 of 9 a Virginia blend and Irish's 5 o'clock a Latikia blend.
I use to stop by each summer and pick up a supply. It was much cheaper. They are unique and unadulterated. check my earlier post on this thread.

Hi All,

Thanks for your input. Haven't heard from Steve or Eva since Mid-Dec.
Regarding comments about pricing, I GLADLY pay those rates for such an amazing product! Grandfather's Own and Wild Rose are my favorites.
Hoping the Books family is okay and will be back in business soon!

I placed an order two months or so ago. A couple of weeks later, I got a form email saying that my order was canceled and the money refunded, but it didn't give any reason and there was no further communication. I just assumed they had closed up shop. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Latest update, I signed up on the portlandpipeclub.org site and was told that the next meeting is 4/23. I was also told that Steve Books is still active in the club, so I'm hoping to see him there. I'll report back on what I find out about his business.

Last order I did with him was like last August or September. Got 2 pounds of tobacco, he said he was still trying to switch to another online venue and his daughter was going to be taking over, looks like maybe that isn't the case.
