I just called the House of Calabash to order some tobacco from Steven Books, and their phone number is no longer in service. Does anyone know what's happening there? I know Mr. Books has many fans of his fine blends. I hope all is well.

They last posted to FB on January 26th so it hasn't been too long. I'm getting a phone disconnected message as well, I hope all is well with Mr. Brooks.

The phones have been having problems for a while. I would try ordering by the web site.

I have been able to contact them on Facebook also.
I do want to see them keep in business. They have unique tobaccos that I like.

I havent' tried any of them (yet), but the tobaccos in some of his blends are aged for over 40 years. 8O

Bumping this thread. I would love to hear more from people who have tried a range of Steven's blends. I would like to order some, but don't want to 'explore' too much due to costs.

I dropped by the shop a month or two ago and picked up a pouch of Legion of Honor, a VaPer. I haven't tried many of their blends. So far my favorite has been Grandfather's Own, burley blend with cocoa. It's phenomenal, IMHO. If anyone has the chance to make the trip to visit Steve, they should do it. He's a really great guy and has a wonderful little shop there in Oregon City.
hiplainsdrifter - I would recommend calling him up (if the phone thing isn't a problem) and talk to him about your tastes. He's really helpful and I'm sure would point you in the right direction.

+1 Wallace I go by there every few years and it is always treat..I plan to repeat the trip in May or June.
HPD: I have tried 7 of his blends. Only disliked 2. As always YMMV. PM me and I will tell you which and why.
His blends are unique in my opinion. They burn differently than any other but similar to OLD GOWRIE. While smoking, there is no PG taste at all(that is unique today). They do not have an unpleasant after taste. Also, they do not fowl my pipes and the after odor in the bowl dissipates faster that any other tobacc I have tried.
Happy puffing.

Goes to show you how small the world can be.
Yesterday evening I met a nice young man at my B&M. He was enjoying a cigar and I my pipe. He mentioned his dad, a piper, was about out of a tobacco blend he was crazy about. His dad had friends pick him up 7 lbs. of it years ago, which he had cellered, from a pipe shop in Dallas that is no longer in operation. We were exchanging information and he mentioned growing up in Oregon and that he and his wife planned on returning for a week in a few days. After giving him your information on House of Calabash, and the blenders ability, I had just picked up on yesterday, he looked it up on his I-phone and said he was going to try and get by and see them. He still needs to get a sample from his dad.
A guy in N. Carolina, smokes a blend that is no longer available from a blender in Dallas and gets hooked up by two guys who meet by chance in a B&M in Oklahoma City, with a blender in Oregon City, all enabled by a blog on the internet. This young man plays in a band and I have never seen him in our B&M lounge before. How cool is that?! :)

2/2/17 Bumping this thread - House of Calabash SHOP closed in Oct 16, but Steve was making a go of it online. I haven't been able to get through to him by phone email, or his square-up site. Hope all's well.
Anyone received an order from him lately?
