I've been cutting my own hair since the Flobee. The last fifteen years has been with a nice Wahl clipper. I do it mostly as a time-saver.
I go from #8 fully open in front to #2 closed at the neck line, no problem.?
Always kept mine very short. At 40 ( a while ago!) stopped fighting the “Friar Tuck” problem, and just buzzed it all short.
Currently, twice a week buzz with an Oster Model 10, with a 0A attachment at home. Easy Peasy... VERY convenient and simple. No motorcycle ”helmet hair”, no “hat hair”, no “bed head”, no shampoo, and I’m well over “vanity”.
Money saved goes to good Bourbon & Scotch! ??
(and good tobacco & pipes obviously...)

Gave myself a cut couple of weeks ago. No. 7 on top and No. 2 on the side and back. It's not like I'm going to date again.
I got the red chrome one, and my kids made fun of me, saying they my mid-life crisis clippers being all red and shiny.
I'm gonna pretend Nurse Ratched was the stylist in that story.
(The one in the movie, not so much the new one although she was ok in AHS season 3.)
My wife has been cutting mine and my sons hair for 6 or 7 yrs now. It started out rough but she does a fantastic job now. No lines or waiting and it saves the family 40ish dollars a month. Pluss i can flirt with and stair at my hairdressers boobs without guilt.

That was the last $8 I spent on hair care. I occasionally think of replacing it with something nicer but the damned thing won't break.
My hair care routine is simple. Whenever it begins to look like I might have to comb it, I cut it all off. Kind of an ongoing chia-pet approach.
I usually don't cut my hair at all from Halloween until first day of spring and cut more often during the hottest months.
Each year, there's just a bit less to cut and I'm fine with that...
