Greetings! I have family in Melbourne and my daughter just visited Australia last month. She loved Canberra! They told me that I have to visit and do some motorcycle traveling across the continent. I am planning on doing this closer to retirement when I can take more time off.

Welcome to this great site! My hat's off to any brave pipe-smoking soul willing to endure the taxes in Australia. I lived in Sydney a while back but had pipe tobacco in my household goods when I was shipped over; I never thought to declare it as it wasn't that much and no one made any comments about it. I don't remember cigars being outlandishly expensive, but this was 10 years ago. Anyway, always great to hear from the pipe guys in Oz.

Thanks for the welcome. Cigars are just as bad. I watched a review on YouTube of a cheap cigar in the USA, $6.50. Same one in Australia, just under $100. At least I can ration the pipe tobacco to an extent. Starting to wonder why I moved here....

Small world indeed. Moved to Oldham from Leeds in 1990 (married an Oldham lass. She's long gone but here I still am). I can tell you you're not missing much but in all fairness there's a lot of investment and I doubt you'd recognise it.

Don't remember Franklyn's, but then I'm now an old fart and can't even remember what day it is...
