How does HH Pure Virginia compare to Union Square or Full Virginia Flake?

I'm looking for a first-place pure Virginia for me to stock up and age - one that is not a red virginia as I have red virginia covered.

I like Union Square for this. FVF is certainly top notch, but I'd prefer something that can be stored in the tin long-term. For this reason I'd like to find something that comes in round tins with sturdy seals, and HH Pure Virginia might fit the bill.

You can always jar it and in the case of the Brown Sugar flake, i just checked a tin, the seals are fairly garbagish so I threw a couple tins in Mylar and sealed them that way, so i can keep them in the tins and from drying out over the next couple years. I mean if you like FVF more there are ways you don't have to sacrifice the thing you actually want over a seal.

Thanks for the ideas. Right now I have my SG tins placed inside a few containers that claim to be airtight, they are plastic containers like you might find in a kitchen pantry. I'm going to keep a close eye on them for now and if seals seem to be deteriorating I'll jar.

I like to keep tobacco in their sealed tins because I enjoy swapping tins with people or giving them away, and a sealed tin is nicer for that. And, for me lighting a pipe is a very traditional ritual and I enjoy having the old style tins to go along. Just a personal preference.

I would choose Pure Virginia every time over FVF. Besides the die hard anti C&D folks... you might even give C&D Virginia Flakes a try. They are totally pure Virginias with an oatmeal, bread and spices aroma. As a bulk, it is affordable, and I keep 20 pounds in the cellar at all times, reordering it often.

That's great feedback. I am always always smoking Virginia... I rotate between Union Square, FVF, Carolina Red Flake, Peterson Flake and the Sutliff Crumble Kake Red Virginia.

I don't really *need* more, but I like trying new tins and building stores to age. Never know when a new variety might just do something special for you. I will investigate these on my next order!
