I can't remember or find the right word. What do you call a physical object that a person keeps around or carries with them to help focus their thoughts or recenter their thinking on a goal to be achieved? For example: someone who wants to quit smoking or lose weight would wear a bracelet they can grab anytime they feel tempted to make a poor choice. Other examples may be an AA Coin or rosary beads.

It's not a talisman, totem, worry stone. I'm racking my brain and am failing at the Google Olympics.

A totem is/was originally to do with the semi-to-fully mythological ancestor of your tribe (or of your clan within the tribe). A lot of people nowadays say "totem" when they're really talking about a "mascot."

Amulets, charms and talismans, while similar, are indeed different things.

Some Native Americans, in translation of course, called sacred objects with special power their medicine, which is a different use of the word than is usual in English, but the idea is related.

Call it what you want, its your remember-y object. Not remembering what to call a thing that helps you remember your goal is part of the struggle. It never ceases to amaze me which topics, seemingly arbitrarily, generate a lot of responses while others that at first glance seem to be interesting and pipe or tobacco related generate few. But then again, I posted here, so maybe I'm part of the problem.;)

This reminded me of the objects the characters used in the film Inception to ground themselves in the dream world. I believe they referred to these as a “Totem”. Leo’s was a machined metal spinning top of some kind. I think the term fits your purpose, though I am just suggesting this off the top of my head.
