Were you able to see the pictures of my pipe? What was your thoughts might be? It used to be my grandfather's it's been in the family for 80 plus years.

Is your pipe a meerschaum? Seafaring men often used small pipes because they often smoked them upside down out of the weather. It may be a metal (nickel?) reinforced solid needs chain or bone pipe.

Never ran across one like it, but its beautiful to me.

Welcome aboard from central North Carolina. I've visited Vermont once, in the spring, in the Green Mountains after the skiing season was long over. Beautiful country. I was on business, a scientific meeting, so no hiking or birding or anything. But beautiful country and good mountain air.

About the pipe, does it appear to be meerschaum or clay? The shank is quite thick for such a small bowl and chamber. I think it is some sort of import, but I can't get a range on the origins. Doesn't look Turkish or Japanese. Hmmm.

I have had a jeweler look at the piece. They did tell me that it was silver. And I was told that it was not a meerschaum because it has the growth lines. The pictures pixelated so you can't see it as well. The piece itself is approximately 4 in Long. The the Bowl is about 1 in diameter. Thank you for your thoughts I appreciate it.

Welcome! I think the pipe is bone and possibly a ceremonial pipe of a tribe of some sort. Just guessing...

Is it possible that your pictures are showing only the stummel and it's missing a stem? The opposite end from the bowl looks quite wide. Can you provide a picture that shows that, end-on?
