I should get a clay pipe the thing is I kind of hate how easily they break and I smoke on my way to and from work. So.... That just doesn't work too well.

I played golf the past two days. 90 plus temperature and RH here in Indiana. I sweat just a bit.
Pipes don‘t work when it’s over 80, at least for me. Luckily I can smoke my pipes in my den and cigars are for outside. Cigars are good up to 90 or so, after that I don’t want to be outside anyway.

Clays are at around a $7 price point (for the less fancy jobbers, at least).
I pay more for a pint of beer around here.. So, if broken...meh
Admittedly, I smoke a cob while working in the yard, in this heat/humidity....so I can be hands free.

@marconi Same here - this redcoat likes to smoke his clay pipe in interesting & historic places!
The thing isn't so much that they break it's more I've had ones break after only getting two or three smokes from them. If you include the cost of the pipe per smoke into the cost of the smoke a clay can put a bowl into cigar territory. If I could guarantee I'd get seven or ten smokes out of a clay I'd be a bigger fan. Also if I had more good places to sit and smoke clays would become more appealing.
on the hell days like today it's all about the cob and meers. Briar will have to wait for slightly cooler less humid days.

Ny preferred climate, smoking or not, is the chill autumn air.
My pipe smoking is simply for relaxing and contemplating. If I am uncomfortable from being hot & sweaty, it’s not worth it.
I look for cool fronts to come through so I can have a bowl a couple of evenings each week.

actually It is not the heat that kills but the humidity makes it miserable, 100f in El Paso and 100f in South FL feels different
