Every thing has its risks. Is pipe smoking a lower risk than cigarettes, yes but it's still a risk.

What's even more risky is hoarding Penzance and then selling it at profiteering prices of 3 to 5 times retail. In a recent study it showed that 100% of Penzance profiteers suffered an SRT (severe rectal trauma) within months of their unethical undertaking.

It sounds like you already have your conclusion and you’re looking for supporting evidence. This is a recipe for confirmation bias, not for knowledge.

I suggest you take a good long ponder over what you’re willing to live with or, indeed, to die with. Family history of this sort of trouble is a big indicator. Claiming to hate addiction but having a willingness to indulge it anyway also doesn’t bode well for restraint.

Introspection is tricky and often painful. A real deep look in the mirror is often difficult. But it definitely helps to wipe away rationalizations and get to the real core of a matter.

------------

I've read many threads on the topic, all suffering from a conclusive sampling bias of active users of a substance purporting to be rational. From what I have lived and understood, though the motivations for addiction may be unconscious, they can be known with hard work.

If you seek to control or quit smoking, such work is time-honored, but there are other ways. Casual said that these discussions mostly serve to confirm biases while hauntedmyst warned of SRT as a non-immediate effect of Esoterica profiteering, which delayed effect is supported in other quarters.

I plan on curtailing to a couple bowls a week for a while given the current state of affairs. Healthy lungs/throat and immune system will be helpful in staying out of the hospital.

I have recently quit smoking cigarettes(again) due to health concerns.

I started smoking pipes and cigars back in 2012 though I never indulged in them more than once or twice a day. In short, I only smoked them as a 'hobby'. However due to traumatic events in my life I picked up smoking cigarettes in 2015. I never smoked more than a pack a day. After my grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer and my father had a heart attack I decided to quit cigarettes altogether as I am clearly under risk.

I am here for a reason. I love pipes, I love pipe tobacco. I love the community. I love the sincerity of the pipe smoker. Even though I wage a personal war against cigarettes, I like to maintain close relations with Lady N. I hate addiction, but when I crave it I want to have it. And the thought of it being off limits, angers me.
Long story short, how much of a risk are we under as pipe smokers? There are so many research papers. Old ones, new ones... All indicating contradictory results. Obviously people who inhale are probably under the same risk as cigarette smokers. And people who smoke pipes more than several times a day are under greater risk. Is there any credible research we can cite when we want to claim that smoking pipes several times a day is not that dangerous?
Thank you all.
generally it's a lot safer then cigs. Yes there is damage but that applies to too much caffeine and eating the occasional pizza. I'll put it the way a doctor put it to me once. If you smoke cigs long enough it will make you unwell and probably kill you, however other tobaccos such as pipes, dip, cigars, and snuff if used regularly and often might make you sick and slim chance they'll kill you.

Pipe smoking delays the adventure of COPD.

One may experience the joy of generosity by giving away unobtainium.

I am only going to say this once. Pipe smoking is the healthiest thing you can ever do. Working out, eating right getting sleep pale in comparison on how much better pipe smoking is.

If anyone doubts my veracity, I have a study from Johns Hopkins proving this fact. I only charge 50 bucks a pop for the study.

Does that come with or without hand sanitizer included?

I will be doing the same. This is a very smart idea for all of us to consider during the current viral pandemic.

It can’t hurt and there is a possibility that it will help. I don’t inhale and I am already a moderate smoker to begin with, but I’ll be intentional on how much I smoke and take care in other parts of my health in case I need to fight something off.

Saying pipe smoking is better for you than cigarettes is kind of like saying getting shot by a .22 calibre is most often less fatal than getting shot with a .45. If you wish to rationalize or justify it, I'm sure there are plenty of reports you can find that will support your desires. Probably .0001% of the people, or less, live as perfectly healthy lives as possible in order to maximize their life span. Make an adult decision, try to enjoy your life and just live on.

Indeed. Just because I'm a moderate drinker doesn't mean I'm not going to suffer from long term affects of alcohol usage. I know the risks but I enjoy what I enjoy without any regrets. Takes another sip of Peach Crown and Coke.

Hey Bob, you still snuffing in these trying times? Public consumption of snuff must be way down due to covid. I ran out weeks ago.
