Have to Admit I was Wrong, Got a Lighter ?

I wanted to use matches for several reasons, but the most important thing was flame temperature.

Yesterday I got a Lotus lighter locally and now I’ve discovered it produces a cooler than match smoke, better tasting, and less complicated.

Here’s my main lighters. A Zippo with a butane insert. A Zippo with a Pipe insert and a Bic

I guess I don’t see the downside. Replacement parts are a good thing, it’s not like you’re working on them more than once every six months at most.

Besides wooden matches are one use items. One.

But hey, do what works for you.

I don't give half a rat's ass. I use matches, Bics, and a regular Zippo in the car. I find them all satisfactory, with no strange yearning for the more exotic. When seated at a desk, I prefer wood matches, but only because their length seems to aid in more precise control of the light. And I'll take Greg Pease's word that they give a cooler light. A man who really wants to be cool would use an ember from the fireplace, and sneer at mere mortals using contraptions from late centuries.

I have a BIC in reserve in my bag but I've never used it; just use a Zippo with a pipe insert. Refuelling it and replacing flints occasionally doesn't cause me any hassles.

Don’t look now, but someone clearly took your butane pipe insert Zippo when you weren’t looking and dressed it in a VGK sleeve. Clearly a practical joke, but effective retaliation will be predicated on playing it cool right now, ostensibly not noticing or caring, and waiting for the proper moment to launch countermeasures.

(This well worn Lotus is a summertime lighter. Summer time it lights, summer time it don’t.) It has a tendency to vapor lock and can be stubborn as hell. Squirting a little fluid in the Zippo every few days is not an issue. Bleeding the Lotus, cooling it down and refilling and wondering if it will work is a pain in the ass. Hopefully yours will behave better.
