Have a Smoking Room? What's it Like?

I like to smoke outside, but if it's too cold I smoke in one of my shops,

I have a corner bedroom in my house converted into the media room/bunker/smoking lounge.

I have set up an exhaust fan in a window that keeps it at negative pressure to the rest of the house while smoking.

Pipe cleaners go immediately into an 8 ounce tobacco can with a lid and ash goes into a lidded, flared shot glass until filled, then into a used ziplock destined for quick removal.

These measures have kept my oxygen junkie of a spouse in good spirits through the cigarette years and into the pipe era.

I've sold my tiny place in Austin and will (hopefully) soon have a place in Knoxville with a whole basement to call my own.

I have a similar setup. In my smoking room I mounted a high quality (quiet) bathroom exhaust fan in the wall by the computer and it sucks smoky air to the attic above the garage. The attic is very well ventilated so no problem.

To keep the smell from the rest of the house... and the wife, I've weather stripped around the door and just crack is an inch when I'm smoking. The fan creates an incoming draft so no smoke gets out.

As to heat and cold: The a/c duct is sealed off and there is a portable a/c in a corner with a duct to a window outlet. The window faces the front of the house so we didn't want an unsightly large window a/c there. The outside duct is only a few inches high and not visible unless you look hard. As for heat, a small portable electric heater does the trick.

I have my computer, office desk, pipes, and misc. junk in here. If I have something and don't know where I should keep it in the house, this is where it goes. Works for me....

As to getting rid of ashes. Seems that no matter how careful I am emptying my ashtray, I still get a cloud of dust. So, I take it out to the back yard and gently pour it on the grass. We have a large backyard so it vanishes fast. If the weather is bad out I've been known to flush it.
