Figured I'd bump the thread again, since I finally made the time to work on restorations again. Thank you long weekend!
Here's the Calich, done at last. This will go into the rotation after it sits for a few days. Can't wait!

There's a ghost in the stem! I'll be posting more pics shortly of another Jeantet I just finished...

Thanks! Sorry about the big picture, photobucket is being weird today. I resized those pics several times, but it still showed up big.
Here's the Jeantet, no stand needed as it sits up perfectly...just the after pics this time.

Here's another 'Made in Canada' Brigham restore that I, sort of, finished tonight. The stem was practically bitten through so I had to reshape the bit, and I still need to raise the bite marks even more but I'll leave that for another day. Oi, this one gave me fits. So dirty, most of the job was just cleaning the stem and shank. I also topped and restained the bowl.
Before...

...and after...

Thanks Roth, I only top the bowl as a last resort. This was one well-loved pipe. I never know the story behind these finds, but this one was clearly someone's favourite.

Ooh Baby! First trip back out in a couple of months to the place that I got the Calich above. Amazingly, the owner remembered me as the pipe guy after only one previous visit. Great memory! Anyways, she had some new treasures in store and I was able to pick up these beauties...

From the top...another "Made in Canada" Brigham 3 dot, a Butz Choquin "Provence" (ooh-la-la) and on the bottom a Chacom "Gentleman".
I have a lot of Brigs now, but these are my first BC and Chacom. Very excited! The BC has some heavy charring at the rim, but other than that all three are in great condition and should clean up well. :puffy:

I've been very fortunate this year at antique stores, and these are all small one horse towns where I'm finding pipes. It's all about patience and persistence, they are out there...
Roth- Talk about being drawn to that Chacom, I wasn't five feet in the store and I spotted it in the display case. There was no way I was leaving without it. It has a great feel in the hand, very comfortable.

Nice score Ghost!
Well done man. The rim on that 3 dot looks great. Nice stem/stummel connection on all three pipes too. Great picks!
BTW - I'd also watch "Briar Pickers"... and based on the number of guys doing this, we should all buy stock in pipe cleaners and q tips.

The rim on the 3 dot is pristine! I don't think I've seen a cleaner pipe rim at an antique store. The previous owner must have really been particular about their pipes, I'm hoping the inside is just as nice. (Wishful thinking...)

Bumping this thread for some quick pics from today. I was at my usual antique place and found some neat tins. I should note that I didn't buy these, as I don't collect tins, but they piqued my interest so I took a few quick phone pictures. I'm sure the "old tin" guys will offer some insight. I know you're wondering, but the Balkan Sobranie was an empty tin.

This tin really fascinated me, "Regal" was a very suitable name.

Bump!
Well, I struck out again at the antique store today. They had pipes, but nothing that grabbed me that I had to add to the "to-do" pile in my workshop. I hope to post some new restorations here soon, however, the day was not entirely lost. I saw some real curiosities as far as tins go. I still don't collect these myself, but I thought I'd share a few pics...
Brahadi's? This appears to be a Canadian blend, do any Canucks remember this at all? The other side of the label was in French, of course...

This shelf featured some cut plugs (Rosebud, Oceanic), a blend called "Alouette", along with the omnipresent Edgeworth. Does anyone have any insight into these? Misterlowercase, are you out there?

I'm not a Mason, but I know there are a few of you on the forum that are. Did you know you had your own plug? It came in a relatively massive, cookie tin of sorts...word has it, "It's Good Tobacco".

These were just the tins I thought were the most intriguing. There are usually a lot of tins at this place, but I've never seen so many in one day before. Even though I found no pipes I wanted, I'm hoping this is an omen of good antiquing to come this summer...

This is a cool ongoing thread, I dig stuff like this.
Thanks for sharing.
I had to set boundaries for myself and only buy full sealed tins, otherwise I'd go broke because they call my name dammit!

LOL
For some reason, unless it's really really rare, the bigger tins don't seem to fetch much from collectors. I often wonder, who are these tin collectors? Do they smoke? How can they spend $2,000 on an old empty tobacco tin?
There seems to be a lot of them though, the Australian collectors especially are mad keen and pay insane prices I've noticed.
It seems most tin collectors like the pocket tins, I guess they're easier to display or something, and, if you ever see a Master Mason pocket tin like this:

master_mason_tobacco_tin_1.jpg

...you should buy it on the spot if it's a reasonable price, they sell for $1,000+ all day long.
And if you ever come across an old Master Mason calender for $5, might as well grab it too...

Hopefully it is a good omen for you!
I proclaim,

Brother Ghost shall thou findeth ye olde 1928 Dunhill Root in the finest condition!
